Yea, I would love to know what this means. If this means “his guys” aren’t yet on the roster, oh boy..

I've got a question for some of you guys with more OL knowledge. Why don't our OL block until the whistle? There seems to be an initial effort and then a lot of standing and looking. We don't seem to have anyone with that Landon attitude of still looking to take someone's head off. Coaching??
Posted on 10/26/21 at 7:41 am to coachcrisp
well if none of the other tackles can take owens's spot, it means they're getting beat every single play in practice. because owens is getting beat every other play and sometimes 2 out of every 3 plays in the games.

This is the guy that thinks Saban is wrong about Hall and Sanders. He think they should both be starting and Saban is too stubborn to do so. People have called for him to be banned. So now he’s trying to turn it on everyone else

JMO but I believe that means Doug is looking to recruit his type OL players and that sounds like a huge problem for 2022.
What we have today is what we finish with with the exception of an injury. Hopefully Bryce can keep dodging them and avoid injury. I had us at 10-2 for this season and I am sticking with that.

Well, at least "his guys" aren't undersized tweeners like, who was it ? Brent Key ? Which OL coach brought all those small OL in, and had us screwed for years ? All the guys we have signed with Marrone here are 6'5 300+
One has to wonder how we got in this OL situation though. All those listed players are not freshmen. There are plenty of experienced talented players to choose from.

Watched Dalcourt get blown off the ball in goal line situations. Quite depressing
Yeah, when it comes to OL its bad to have a weak link anywhere, but you damn sure cant have a weak center. I dont know why we ever let anyone who isn't a pure monster mauler play center. Ekiyor would have been a great center if they would have let him continue to develop there. He moved for Landon Dickerson, and if not for Owens I think he would have moved back to center, but once all the reps were wasted on owens and dalcourt Ekiyor was destined to stay at guard I suppose. Owens has been a disaster in more ways than one, and I dont think we will see a change.

He was hired 9 days before NSD 2021, that OL class was already signed.

Latham and Brockermeyer were Top 6 national players in 2021, but Quick and Kight were both Top 76 in 2019.
We have 4 blue-chip tackles than can't beat out Chris Owens.

I'll say it again. The OL issue is not the players.
It is Marrone
Could be. I think we all expected a better unit coming from an experienced nfl coach.

Marrone and BoB can both hit the road after the season as far as I’m concerned. Color me massively unimpressed with them both.

Strength of schedule: 7th of 130
Total offense: 10th of 130 (494 ypg)
Scoring offense: 2nd of 130 (45.9 ppg)
3rd down offense: 1st of 130 (58.3%)
Seems like they are doing alright to me for an offense that lost 8 starters, 5 of which were 1st round draft picks and 3 of the Top 5 Heisman candidates.

BoB is doing a good job on the offense as a whole.
The OL as stated in many times in this thread has not played well overall. Very inconsistent performances from them. Quite a few of Young’s big throws and scrambles have come when the pocket has collapsed or is collapsing. Some of Robinson’s big runs have been the result of him turning short runs into longer ones. How much of that is because of Marrone I don’t know. But it feels like the offense is succeeding in spite of them at times.

Stats are great, but Bryce is saving their bacon this year by dodging bullets and running around like a madman because the OL is about as bad as I’ve seen under Saban. Lack of creative play calling has been a national story line (three passes in College Station inside the 5?) our run game seems to be handing it off up the gut. Where are the option plays? Toss sweeps? Counters? Jet sweeps? Reverses? How about a flea flicker or something creative? Heck, just watch an OM game and copy a few creative plays from Lane if you don’t have any creative juice yourself. All of our good OCs have coached from the sideline…Lane, Sark, etc…so they can talk to their QB and communicate with their guys. BoB sits up in the booth like an NFL guy with no connection to his guys…no ability to sit the OL down and motivate them eye ball to eye ball. I just don’t like his style and don’t think he’s a great fit. Marrone has been terrible. He inherited a roster of elite players and has produced a Vandy level product. In any other industry he’d be fired for performance issues.

All the passes inside the 5 in College Station were a national story line because we DIDN'T run it up the gut.
Not because we weren't creative enough, but rather we were TOO CUTE.
Pick a lane.

Context is key. There’s a time and place for creativity and a time and place to punch the ball in. Not hard to differentiate.
Posted on 10/26/21 at 11:31 am to tider04
A Vandy level product? We're averaging 45+ points per game.
Posted on 10/26/21 at 11:34 am to RollTide33
In spite of the OL. Imagine how good this offense could be if we got even mediocre play from this OL? If RT wasn’t a swinging gate and if our center wasn’t getting pushed 3 yards into the backfield every other play?
