The rest of LSU's schedule is pretty brutal so its probably not going to be very pretty. All could be potential L's
It really depends on the candidate universe and who is available. It's pretty clear that Orgeron isn't the guy to sustain the program so its critical to get the hire right than how the rest of season pans out. Barring some miraculous turnaround which I doubt, LSU should be working on the right hire and who might be the assistants that would come with them. Better to get a jump on it now before the coaching carousel heats up. LSU has a good recruiting class assembled and need to hang on to that before it starts getting picked off because of coaching uncertainty

First, you can't bring in a coach just to do...whatever he does....and let the planning and evaluation fall to assistants. Never heard of this "model". The head coach has to be the best coach on the staff in all aspects. His job is to dictate to assistants his plan and they work with the players to execute it. This model doesn't work because the assistants won't respect the head coach and will leave if they are doing all the work. I mean, why aren't they the head coach if they are doing all planning and prep.
But, if you are gonna keep this model, he has to get a real coaching staff. His staff still has spots and looks like he hired them based on age rather than ability.
I'd can him because LSU is dropping and fast but later in the season. Not sure who u get which may be the bigger problem. Not all elite coaches are knocking down the door to get to baton rouge. If they could have done better than O then they would have.

There are buyout complications. I would try to work out a deal where he resigns/let go when the season is over. No assistants that I see would be able to pull off the interim gig without it being a train wreck.
LSU boosters have plenty of money for the buyout but they don’t want to throw good money after bad. There has to be some type of assurance that the replacement will have significantly better results than O. Big buyouts for similar results pisses people off.
The sooner he is officially let go, the sooner a legit and open search could be made. AD could really shop LSU around to potential coaches. Until he is fired, you have to do a shadow search behind the scenes and at high profile SEC schools it can turn in to a mess.
ie. Petrino/Tuberville/AU debacle.

Let me put it this way:
We hired a special teams coordinator who had never been a OC/DC much less HC because of some tweets.
I still wouldn’t trade him for O.

When I said Orgeron was no more than a great cheerleader surrounded by football coaches, I got drilled. When the great coordinators left, all you guys had left was the equivalent of a queer A&M cheerleader.

You've got to make the move.
He's Mike DuBose made over. Born in Alabama, played at Alabama under Bear, defensive line coach under Stallings. No experience as a head coach above the high school level and only one season as a coordinator but Bama fans largely loved the DuBose hire because "he's one of us."
He rode a brilliant player (Shawn Alexander) to one season of success but otherwise fielded poorly disciplined and mediocre or downright bad teams.
He also engaged in embarrassing personal behaviors off the field (extramarital affair with a staffer that ended with a lawsuit).
Sound familiar?
We ended up on serious probation and spent a decade wandering in the wilderness. If you don't move now, you'll be there too.

Give him another season.

It’s literally Gene Chizik
To be fair, while the similarities are there, O hasn't fallen quite as far as 2012 Auburn.

The problem is the massive buyout he was given. It wasn't necessary.
For better or worse, this is O's dream job. He wasn't leaving LSU.

What ?
2020 doesn't count because of COVID. That's what all the LSU fans told us last year because of COVID but now they are holding 2020 against Coach O and using it as part of the case to fire him. Either counts or it doesn't.

Orgeron got lucky with Burrow, and Brady, plain and simple.
You take away Burrows two seasons at LSU, and what does O's resume as a head coach look like? It looks fricking putrid.

2010: Auburn wins NC
2011: 8-5
2012: 3-9
Realistically, LSU finishes with less that 6 wins and doesn't make a bowl game. Their remaining games are
@ UK
Florida
@ Ole Miss
@ Alabama
Arkansas
ULM
A&M
Of those, ULM is the only one that's a likely win. A&M is very possible too, but only if the team hasn't given up by that point. Maybe some voodoo magic like last year against Florida could happen. Otherwise, I don't see wins against Kentucky, Ole Miss, Alabama, or Arkansas.
Edit: It's not just the similarities with Auburn. It's the direction the program is going. Anyone paying attention can tell that LSU is going downhill.

If the dude just seemed focused on his job it would be easier to keep him. The off the field shite, not that any one particular thing is terribly egregious, just makes the on the field product look that much worse.
When you factor in his likeability with the fanbase starting to wane, you have an even bigger problem. The one thing that could finish him off is if he loses that "player's coach" vibe he has going. If morale in the locker room keeps taking a hit, Eaux is done. He can't overcome all three of those things.
As to a replacement, you're going to have the angst and complication of, "Who the hell are we going to get?" now or later. That aspect won't go away or get better.

2012 Auburn needed overtime to beat ULM and went winless in the SEC. LSU isn't that bad.

He is Gus Malzahn. His recruiting class will be high due to the skill players, but he completely forgets about OL.

Auburn fired Chizik two years after their title, and it was the right move. They looked at it from the long term perspective and felt Chiz couldn’t compete with Saban. LSU has to look long term and determine whether O can compete.
I think O is gone after this year. Let em finish the season out. He’s lost the team IMO and there is serious work needed to get the fans back. I don’t know who you go after though. Who wants to compete in the SEC West unless you’re a G5 coach wanting a big contract.
