Truer words were never spoken. Fans always assume the next guy will be better. Just ask the Vols. Jeremy Pruitt wasn't even remotely as good of a head coach on the field or a caretaker of the program off the field as Butch.

I'm not saying they should have kept Butch. Part of the problem was their cluster frick of a coaching search. Leach might have done better than Butch, and he sure as hell would have done better than Pruitt.

Probably fire him after December.

With respect, in knowing that he did his best for LSU.

The job in Baton Rouge will never be a place that people would turn down at any given time.

There are hundreds of coaching jobs in America that need to ask these types of questions...

LSU is not in that place at the moment.

Don't drag your program into the ground because you had a "connection" with your current Coach.

That dude gets paid enough to buy 20 mansions in the time that we are worrying about if we need to buy a used car, or possibly upgrading to a 10 year financial rate on something that we will hopefully pay off in any given month down the road.

Let your University make those decisions. That is not on you, or your fans.

Lot of good advice ITT.
quote:

To be fair, while the similarities are there, O hasn't fallen quite as far as 2012 Auburn.
Not yet, but the potential is clearly there. We were 2-3 after a close home loss to LSU before the wheels came completely off. The only difference was that we lost to MSU and you didn’t. And y’all have a shitton more raw talent than we did that year.

A bad loss to UK next week may make it inevitable, and your team shows signs of packing it in. 4-8 isn’t significantly better than 3-9.
quote:

The problem is the massive buyout he was given. It wasn't necessary.

For better or worse, this is O's dream job. He wasn't leaving LSU.
Said this immediately after 2019: y’all could have given him a hefty bonus and eliminated the buyout on both ends, and sweetened the pot with a multimillion dollar retention bonus a few years down the road like OU did with Stoops a few years back.

Instead your AD got bent over by the Rosy Finch Boyz even worse than AU did with Sexton and Gustav. And you’re hoping that a bunch of ugly scandals being brought to light will bail you out. Not a good look.
quote:

He's Mike DuBose made over.

Born in Alabama, played at Alabama under Bear, defensive line coach under Stallings. No experience as a head coach above the high school level and only one season as a coordinator but Bama fans largely loved the DuBose hire because "he's one of us."

He rode a brilliant player (Shawn Alexander) to one season of success but otherwise fielded poorly disciplined and mediocre or downright bad teams. He also engaged in embarrassing personal behaviors off the field (extramarital affair with a staffer that ended with a lawsuit).

Sound familiar?
All this.

And DuBose’s downfall started with an opening game blowout road loss to UCLA too

You need to bite the bullet and cut him loose next Sunday if he loses in Lexington, which seems fairly likely.

2012 Auburn needed overtime to beat ULM and went winless in the SEC. LSU isn't that bad.

Sure. This LSU team would beat the 2012 Auburn team. The point is that LSU is in a downward trajectory and someone needs to be fired.

think you have to keep him. Part of this title ix stuff happened under him. I don’t know if you can get the type of coach fans would be satisfied with until the end of the current investigations and LSU find sources what their penalties if any will be. Plus IF LSU gets sanctioned for anything that happened under O lsunis relieved of his very expensive buyout.

I would promote him out of the head coaching spot and give him a title and office. He is a hell of a recruiter and he’s LSU to the core.

I think you have to let him go this season.

I am with my buddy Higgs here. There is a trajectory going and it isn't a good one.

The thing with Coach O was you could say, well, he isn't the best X's and O's sort of coach but he motivates the team and he's a great recruiter. I've watched a few of the locker room talks he's given lately and that doesn't hold true any more.

If you let Coach O hang around too long you get what USC has now... everybody in their neighborhood fishes in their pond. I can assure you of this... Arkansas, A&M, the Landmass schools, and Alabama are just waiting to snap up La. recruits. If you think that is bad wait until Oklahoma starts digging for them.

Orgeron hasn't lost his team like Chizik did at AU in 2012. LSU still plays hard. You could have rolled a HS team out the against AU in 2012 and had a shot to win. No one would play for that coaching staff any longer. However, Orgeron is simply not a good head coach. You can sign 20 players in LA every year and be in SEC contention. I read that LSU has been 8-7 since the Natty and I found that shocking.

A&M would give him a 20 year guaranteed contract with no buyout clause.

You already saw what we would do.

It’s literally Gene Chizik

Chizik is a much better coach than O.

Auburn has found itself in this situation several times and you have to make the difficult decision to let him go.

Interestingly we got there (twice) doing exactly what LSU did here.

Gave a big raise, big extension, and big buyout to a coach who had brief success - but likely was never going anywhere else!

Orgeron got lucky with Burrow, and Brady, plain and simple.

You take away Burrows two seasons at LSU, and what does O's resume as a head coach look like? It looks fricking putrid.

got lucky is an understatement, his brothers went to Nebraska.
He wouldve went there, but they didnt offer,
TWICE, they didnt offer out of HS either

With the new tv deal coming the conferences way, they will just buy him out. That just cause stuff is opening a new can of worms, not worth it. Pay the 17 mil, and
call it a day.

Bad thing with getting brady is if he has 3 good yrs, he will go the the NFL, and you start over
