Texas and Oklahoma are leaving a conference where they had the two largest stadiums respectively...to where they are now 5th and 9th with regards to stadium size.

Will the Horns Up ego drive them to increase capacity in Austin to try to keep up with their new neighbors (like aTm did after expansion - remember...Kyle Field held 83,000 in 2012), or will they be happy knowing that "everything is bigger in Texas" only applies to the Aggies in this instance?

(Pending) SEC Football Official Stadium Capacities:
1. aTm - 102,733
2. UT - 102,455
3. LSU - 102,321
4. Bama - 101,821
5. Texas - 95,594
6. UGA - 92,746
7. UF - 88,548
8. Auburn - 87,451
9. OU - 86,122
10 USCe - 80,250
11. Arkansas - 76,000
12. MIZZOU - 71,168
13. Ole Miss - 64.038
14. Miss St. - 61,337
15. Kentucky - 61,000
16. Vandy - 39,790

The SEC now has 10 of the 36 largest stadiums in the entire world. Absolutely bonkers

OU has the top stadium and facilities in the SEC tied with A&M after a 500 mil renovation. They didn’t choose to add seats due to in person CFB attendance dwindling nation wide. There is however amazing amenities and standing room in the stadium. Makes for a really cool vibe.

TEXAS is working on an expansion/renovation to the SEZ and trying to get to A&M's capacity wasn't even a blip on the radar.

Quality over quantity.

Expanding stadium sizes, at this point, seems to be a waste of money. Attendance has been on the decline for years - with most folks opting to stay home and watch the game on their large flat screen/projection TV and save the expense. I think most schools will really start focusing on improving the amenities within their stadiums, rather than expanding at this point.

We will probably replace our press box and add more suites on our west upperdeck eventually. Our stadium is not bad though

OU is nice but it is mid level in the SEC. You are used to being the 2nd richest guys surrounded by poors. Even the lower tier schools in the SEC have amazing facilities because the SEC has been printing cash for a long time and it's a never ending arms race where no one cares about budgets.

I actually have been. It’s a concrete coffin with a ton of old school seating just like most of the massive SEC stadiums. Cool to go to for sure but not anywhere near as plush as OUs. They call it the palace on the prairie for a reason. Not as loud of course but still a very modern high end experience compared to most.

Only one SEC school has spend as much as OU on facilities and that’s A&M. The rest don’t have anywhere close to 500 mil in disposable income for upgrades.

Oh, so you went in 2020 after the latest renovations were finished?

I’m sure Bama and UGA could come up with that much but they haven’t.

You’re already forgetting which conference you’re coming into. All of the SEC schools have upgraded except Vandy and even they have commited to a $300 million makeover. So your recent upgrade is not a distinct advantage over anyone else in recruiting.

Every recruit is going to hear the same spiel from every school, “Look at our facilities! They’re the best in the conference.”

This is why the SEC has become the nation’s elite conference. To paraphrase a fictional Gump, “Elite is as elite does.”

Texas temporarily dropped from 100k to 95k to complete the South Endzone expansion. It will be completed next month and ready for the 2021 season.

Not sure what the final numbers will be, but they said initially that they were adding suites and more luxury seating options instead of trying to maximize the number of seats in the stadium. This is also why they cutout a Longhorn, I mean Uterus, in the design.

My guess is the final number will be about 100k. The largest crowd to date is 103k.
