Do what?

So the OM years don't count?

That's counting the Ole Miss years.

O and Kirby started at the same time at their current jobs and O had 3 years at OM

He’s also overseen top 5-10 defenses almost every year he’s been here but gets zero credit as a coach for those for whatever reason.
We should all clap and raise a toast.

We hire a coach and expect him to be an expert in his field.
It is one thing for us to struggle to replace Chaney or to expect 1st year success from Monken without a QB to start the season and no spring football.
It is another for us to be mid-tier on defense when that is kirby's baby.

Kirby's first season was 2016, O's was 2017.

I meant O only had 5 years of head coaching experience going into his title season, same as Kirby has this year.

So O wasn't the LSU HC in 2016?

He took over for Les after he was fired. So no, he was interim head coach after the Aubie loss.

And going back to my original point, O is 46-41 as a HC with no division or conference titles in 7 years as a HC excluding his title year (2019).

Chizik was 24-38 with no division or conference titles in 5 years as a HC excluding his title year (2010).

Kirby is 52-14 with 3 division titles and 1 conference title in 5 years as a HC.

Just because a coach (like O or Chizik) had one exceptional season doesn’t make the coach without a national title a mediocre or substandard coach.

Looks like they all have one conference title, Kirby has two more division titles but he is in the East after all.

And you keep skipping over Kirby walked into a better coaching job. Right ?

edit: Is 7 years the standard or is it you not giving Swinney his due ? Or, making excuses for Kirby ? I think the latter.

He’s won more than most coaches in this league.

He’s won the East and the league.
Made the playoffs.

I’d say he’s successful.
He’s owned Auburn and beaten Florida.

He’s not Saban, but who is?

Are you really saying nothing has changed from those decades other than the teams that are dominant?

I’m saying it’s always been very hard to win a title.

Wanna go down that same road with O?

2-0 vs Kirby. I guess we can put that on O’s resume since Kirby is so awesome.

I actually just think it’s hilarious that UGA fans are discussing national championships.

You forgot to judge his half time adjustments.

Out lasting/rostering teams isn’t an adjustment, it’s an advantage established on the recruiting trail. When facing equal or better rosters he has been found wanting

All coaches fail, it's not an argument for Kirby being better than Saban. Don't act like Kirby hasn't been killing it either.

Kirby is still a work in progress but his ceiling is obvious.

Once Saban steps down, who will their AD throw the kitchen sink at...
