Don't know about that.Look what happened to the Ivy League when they de-emphasized CFB.
I could also see a better brand of FB by watching two HS's loads with D1 talent...Marietta vs Grayson would put better athletes on the field than Georgia vs Florida.

You know what?
Im a georgia fan.
I can see better talent at bama.
Better talent in the nfl.
But because i am a georgia fan, i follow the georgia bulldawgs.
There is a lot of bullshite out there about the talent. I promise you, if i am searching for the best football, basketball, baseball talent... it isnt in athens. And i am fine with that. Because i am a dawg fan.
There are a bunch of hypocrites following college football when the best talent isnt here. It is on sundays. Are you a fan of the talent? Is brenton cox your bff forever? Justin fields? Nate hybl?
Or are you a fan of the red and black? Does that matter more?

Blah,blah,blah
Love how so many people say this but if you follow the history of schools that have de-emphasized football, you can see a similar history of de-emphasized fan interest. Its just what happens.
There's a reason the Ivy League plays Friday Nt games on PBS.
I'm a fan of both the school and watching talent.Doesnt have to be an either or situation.

But,but,but
The talent is in the nfl.
I dont like mendacity. Lies. And liars.
I chear on my high school team even though they dont have the best talent.
I chear on my alma mater even though they dont have the best talent.
I dont give 2 shits about the nfl... but they have all of the best talent.
Funny how that works.

Jesus dude.
Who put sand in your Vagina?
I said I like both and there's absolutely nothing contradictory about it.
I'll take the pageantry, fans, game experience plus the best amateur talent in CFB over the NFL except for playoff time.
Sorry,I'd rather watch NFL playoffs over CFB playoffs.

So fantastic of you!
Give yourself a HUGE pat on the back!
Once again, there's a reason the Ivy League plays on PBS and University of Pennsylvania played in front 40,000 to 50,000 fans at times in the 30's and 40's and barely draws 10,000 fans now.
Chears?

One of my kids played at an Ivy school. It wasn’t free for us, but it was a great experience and the games and rivalries are a lot of fun. They played good football and most of the players moved on to make Millions on Monday-Friday....

Where did your kid play?
My Brother played at Penn and you're exactly right about the millions on Monday-Friday.

I make mistakes and i own up to them.
This is the second time that you have linked that thread, and i owned up to my mistake there (kind of like a repeat of now). Pulling stats from my phone doesnt always work out well for me. I believe i missed a few entire series on the play by play from the espn app in your example. You have to click a button to open up the drive and i missed them. No excuses. It is on me. I messed up a stat last week from cfbstats.com where i pulled the #completions instead of #attempts. I can admit mistakes. I never run from them. I actually remember them so i can try not to repeat them.

This comes off as hyperbole. I doubt you believe that an nfl minor league would resort in 10,000 dawg, tide, gator fans on saturdays. There would still be the same number of sellouts, imo. We can sellout games with the mailman at qb. Joe cox. Hutson mason. It isnt much different than the Staffords and JT Daniels. Dawg fans are there.

If football was de-emphasized across the board, the fan interest would still be there. If one school de-emphasizes it and the others don't, fan support for that school will drop because they know their team won't be competitive.

Not at Penn.... we looked there. Great school, kinda a tough area. He liked the more rural schools.

Is a free college education and a path to the NFL not enough?
Posted on 5/10/21 at 5:32 pm to FlexDawg
It is not a free education.

So an athlete on scholarship still pays $?
Posted on 5/10/21 at 9:11 pm to FlexDawg
It is a one year commitment by the school. It is free tuition and room and board. Throw in the fact that many of the kids are not smart enough to learn and excel in traditional College classes, so the colleges have created borderline useless degrees to make sure their money makers stay eligible and cast them away when they are no longer useful. Some kids can and do take advantage of it, but many do not and frankly many just plain do not have the aptitude for college to be a benefit to them. There is a reason colleges have academic requirements to enter.
So, it is a free education if you have the aptitude for an advanced education, play well enough to have your scholarship renewed, don’t have a major injury, and you have academic advisers who have tour best interests in mind.

I think this is pretty spot on, save for the cut and dry nature of you’re either smart enough for college or you’re not. I think most anyone who wants to be educated on a college campus nowadays can find something of value to learn and grow from if they’re willing. The impediment comes from a mix of lack of self-motivation and team requirements that end up well exceeding the supposed maximum number of practice hours allowed by the NCAA. Most athletes devote 50% of their time to their education at best whereas it should probably be more like 75%.
To that end, the notion that there is anything “free” about the experience is absurd; they’re putting 40+ hour work weeks and are being compensated with tuition and housing as a result. You can argue whether or not that is a just compensation for the time and labor being exuded but there is an exchange of compensation for a service rendered that directly benefits the school.

Are you equating school work and studying to a work week?
I get the workouts, film study, on field practice time, etc.. im just curious what people constitute as an equivalent work week.

During the season, you got to the trainers at 2 and left at 6:30 depending on if you needed any icing or other stuff. Home games we left around 5 and stayed at a hotel out of town. Away games, we left Friday typically usually got back late Saturday. Always fun to ride the bus for 3 hours after having 50 or so collisions that day. If we flew, we would leave Friday, bus to ATL and then fly to Memphis and bus to Ole Miss. That was a lot of travel. Sunday AM was trainer and typically mandatory piss test. You may also have been called to watch film depending on what occurred the day before.
So, let’s see... Monday through Thursday you averaged 4.5 hours. So that is 18.
Friday you were on for at least 6.
Saturday, with travel, before and after game treatments and meetings, you averaged easily 12 hours. Home a tad less away, more.
Sunday was maybe 2 hours.
So, you averaged 38 hours a week during the season. Bowls and 3 a days skewed that more as there was no school.
So, ya, full time job and then you had college and stuff.

Nowadays, you also have mandatory weight lifting and team related activities with compliance, nutrition, personal development (financial literacy, professionalism, etc), media training and then mandatory tutoring/study hall that takes up the whole evening after practice. The time commitment to not only stay on the team but to remain eligible and game ready well exceeds 40 hours. If you want to count tutoring as academics, you’re talking about 4 hours of class time each day from 8-Noon and about 3 hours of tutoring each evening. Sunday-Friday, that’s about 38 hours a week.
Sleep deprivation is a bitch, too.
