Our receivers played pretty good yesterday

4 receivers with more than 2 catches. 11 different players catching a pass. Looked like the WRs were getting open pretty consistently. Only 1 game so far but so far, it seems like a much stronger unit.

Hell, even Matt Landers had a net positive game.

Bad holding penalty, but he blocked really well and made two catches, one of them was tough to make.

Burton had a bad holding call as well but overall I thought they did fine considering the QB play

Yes, his whole issue has always been nerves. If the game has slowed down for him, he could be a huge weapon in the red zone

Darnell Washington and Fitzpatrick also with some nice snags.

Early on some folks weren't getting open for Mathis but as the game went on I thought they did decently well. DRob started off slow, probably him and Landers with the biggest negative plays yesterday.

We'll see how they look against Auburn, though.

I am happy with this entire team(I know it's only one game, and ARK at that). The receivers will be a strength. We are throwing to the TEs. Special teams with Kearis Jackson, Burton, Camarda will be very good. Our defense will be the best in the conference. Just need a some good QB play and we need a RB to emerge. That's it IMO.

Kearis Jackson is turning into a dependable middle-of-the-field guy.

Our receivers might be the strongest position on the field for the offense right now.

I was excited to see what Kearis could do last season. Injuries really seemed to nag him all year.

He definitely looks like a football player out there on punt return and catching the ball over the middle. Tough kid with a shite ton of pride.

We have many more reliable options than Pickens in the pass game. That's all I needed.

Would have liked to see backs be more effective catching the ball.

Speaking of them, Zeus looks like he's finding himself. Lateral quickness is much better. Even though he isn't yet running with power like he can, I expect a really good season.

I thought his motor was at 100%. He was refusing to go down on first contact. He might not have broken those tackles, but he stayed up for 2nd and 3rd efforts. I'm not concerned about his power. Especially if his vision and jump cuts allow him to create his own yards.

It was great to see the WRs performing well yesterday. Looks like the offense and another year under their belts helped. WR inconsistencies was one of the most frustrating and likely one of the most detrimental aspects of our games last season.

Based on Smart's comments, Burton was also at fault on the Mathis INT in the redzone, apparently misread coverage and cut in instead of sitting (which makes a lot more sense on just how bad of a throw it looked).

One of the reasons WR is one of the most difficult positions for freshman in the SEC to make an immediate impact.

It takes while unless you're Julio Jones or AJ Green.

Kearis Jackson impressed me the most. He got smoked going over the middle on one play, bounced right up, and then caught another pass on the next play.

Also looked like a very dangerous return man.

I thought it was a bad throw as well, but completely agree that Burton needed to sit in that zone.

Yeah. I'd have to go back and look at a replay, but it definitely didn't seem decisive or crisp coming out... Not a great day for Mathis to be sure, independent of all the other challenges the offense decided to throw in.

We discussed this on another thread. The WR settled to the inside. Into coverage. The throw was where he should have been, but it was late, high, and he wasn't there. Mathis should have moved on in his progression and he didn’t. Both players can take some blame. Kirby did the right thing taking some heat off the QB though.

Sounds about right. Saves me the time of going back to look at it and getting pissed off again.

This is why the rant is frustrating. Some troll says that the WRs were bad Saturday and the idiots upvote it.

We had 8 different guys catch passes of 10+ yards.
