Mother Nature would be a factor for the northern schools with the harsh winters and blistering conditions, but then again that’s something that is expected all seasons considering what can happen in the southern plains in late summer.
I mean, why not? There’s no NFL. It would be different and would draw a lot of attention from the boring periods of the MLB and NBA regular seasons. It would take place during when the Combines and Draft would normally happen. Hell, can you imagine being drafted while still playing ball?
It all sounds enticing. Obviously much easier said than done.

They can just burn their couches to stay warm.

So kill tailgating, limit attendance, have to wear masks, get lectured on social issues I have nothing to do with while watching football outside in rain sleet and biting cold?

What exactly is going to be different in February?

Jan/Feb are flu months if folks are scared to go out in public until Jan/March of next year when a vaccine for covid19 is expected. then a lot of them are gonna be scared to go out in Jan/Feb without taking flu shots first as well
depending on when CFB starts in Feb. it could possibly have to go up against college hoops winding down and beginning march madness

A February start could be one modification to the season.
So pro football will continue as scheduled and end with the Super Bowl in February, then CFB picks up right after.
I can dig it.

Whose the decision maker?
COnferences say one thing
Teams say one thing
Is the NCAA going to come in Sept 1st and cancel all games that weekend?

There won’t be a vaccine. There’s never been a vaccine successfully created for an RNA virus. So this won’t be a thing. Our best bet is just improving treatment. This is not going away and there won’t be some miracle solution. Just play football as is. Everyone will get this, but just improve the treatment.

There's a chance we'll have a vaccine by then.

Hopefully the season is cancelled and people can spend that time doing things that actually matter.

Well, that's bullshite. It won't be a silver bullet vaccine, like for polio or whatever, but there could be a vaccine, and it could make a big difference. The flu vaccine often makes a pretty big difference each year.

The flu isn’t an RNA virus.
Also, they are not very successful at preventing the flu. They try to guess the strain that will happen that season and put a few different ones in the vaccine. But it’s only good enough for the season and there are hundreds of different strains. This is why many never even bother with flu shot as you can still get it.

That would run straight into the NFL draft, unless that gets pushed back, how would that work exactly?
Also LOL @ the northern teams playing in the snow the first month

I think Spring football has always been a Plan C that administrators avoided discussing publicly as they all want a normal season and have to plan to play the season as scheduled until such point that it’s obvious it won’t happen as scheduled.
We’re getting to the point, though, where they’ll have to move to PlanB (delayed/altered season), and the Spring football discussions will become more serious and more public.
Once CFB is faced with the choice of either no football or Spring football, everyone will get on board and make it work to avoid a CFB financial apocoplyse.
All that said, I think we’ve still got 2-3 weeks before having to totally ditch the idea of a normal season as scheduled.

It’s frustrating that theTrump administration is handing out money left and right to labs claiming they can create a vaccine. They gave Oxford University in England a billion dollars because they said they had been working on a SARS vaccine for 17 years and were “closer than ever” to a vaccine that could be “adapted” for CV-19. Ridiculous.
