Something called "ole miss esports" say they will no longer use the name Rebels. First of many I suppose.

I talked a lot about how much I despised Matt Luke as our head coach and how I didn't support his teams. In the end, I still wanted us to win. But if they seriously get rid of "Rebels" or "Ole Miss" I am 100% done with the university.

The sad thing though is that it's not a matter of "if" at this point. It's when

I am right there with you bud. I am not going to say I am done, because I will still root for my alma mater, I just won't care very much if they lose.

I remember the same uproar when Colonel Reb got the boot.

I doubt Ole Miss will ever give up the "Rebels" name, but I can absolutely see Ole Miss converting to "Mississippi" in all regards.

The Flood, an opportunity to make Led Zepplin's Rock/Blues version of the old blues tune by Kansas Joe Mccoy and Memphis Minnie "When the Levee Breaks" an Ole Miss fight song.

The Ole Miss fans who want to keep "Rebels" as if it isn't directly correlated to the confederacy are the same fans who called Mike Leach a racist for his tweet.

Elma Meek, a student, submitted the winning entry of "Ole Miss." Meek's source for the term is unknown; some historians theorize she made a diminutive of "old Mississippi" or derived the term from "ol' missus," an African-American term for a plantation's "old mistress.

Depends who you ask.

Their band plays "Forward Rebels" every time they have something to celebrate on the football field, but that's not too often, so I can understand the confusion.

“Some historians theorize...” If we lose our name because some random no name historian made up the derivative of Ole Miss, I’m gonna fight someone IRL.
