The award will go to Cal. All this heming and hawing in here Im sure makes for entertaining discussion, but the COTY is here in Lexington.

I would think it would have to be Calipari. Honestly, nobody has impressive this year.

I know folks don't care about our program, but what Muss has done this year with the guys he has is above average.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with a full roster.

It has to be Cal or Pearl right? I mean how is there even any debate outside of these two?

a new coach who has done a good job after inheriting a horrible team. Otherwise NS would have won it most years while at Bama

Shouldn’t they wait until the end of the season? Do you not want to see who actually wins during tournament time? Bruce has been setting his team up for a tourney run the last three weeks. You think those OT games aren’t a bit planned? Need to get them ready for close games....handle the pressure. In all seriousness, when do they pick? It should be a factor, not all, but some factor

This seems to be a season to give it to the coach who has won the most, as no one has had an unexpectedly good season that wasn't expecting to have one.

Has to be Cal or Pearl. I think we see where they finish in the standings to know.

Since Pearl did not get coach of the year last year, there is no way he will be considered this year.

And why should someone with potentially not even a winning record be coach of the year? Makes no sense.

Can you point to all the times in the past the SEC coach of the year didn't even finish better than .500 overall?

If any of the lower than top tier SEC teams deserve a COY nomination it's clearly Arkansas over A&M. Musselman came into a bad situation (not a single worthwhile player over 6'6 on that entire roster, heck, really 6'5 because Adrio Bailey kind of sucks), lost one of his best players for 5 full conference games (which they went 0-5 in), and he's still got the team in contention for an at large NCAAT bid technically with 4 games left. Why? Because he didn't choke on his easy OOC schedule like Williams did. 6-6 on that OOC is terrible for Williams.

I think if Musselman or Buzz can basically win out give it to them, especially buzz with what games A&M have left to play. Otherwise give it to Cal assuming he takes care of business here on out. Wade was the easy pick until they went on a little bit of a slide the last few weeks. Pearl is in sort of the same boat.

If there is some type of award from OOC play until now, Buzz gets that no question.

It is Cal.

Coach of the year should not go to a middle of the pack team.

It is weird that Aggies are going all in for a marginal coach. I bet they are excited for 8 - 5 in football. Oh wait...

Eh, if they win out (extremely unlikely) he will earn it imo

He would have to be Kentucky and Arkansas at home and LSU, Auburn on the road. I believe a poor job in OOC play can be overlooked with a 10-6 SEC record when they were expected by many to finish in the bottom 2 or 3 of the league. That being said, no way does A&M win all four of those games.

I think Buzz should win it if we can go 11-7, and I think 11-7 should win it for him even if Kentucky goes 16-2. Getting UK's roster to 16-2 just isn't as impressive as getting this A&M roster to 11-7.

Maybe if he didn't suck OOC, but 6-6 is a pretty hard thing to overlook on a terrible OOC slate. 11-7 would be solid but doesnt seem that achievable.

11-7 would be WAY better than anyone would expect but in reality it'll probably be 9-9 or 8-10, A&M's final conference slate is ridiculously tough.

The fact that the talent is bad enough to lose to those teams early on but then improved (via coaching) to finish fairly well in conference play speaks towards how effective he’s been as a coach.

The fact that we were so bad early in the year further highlights want an amazing job he did. We lost our starting PG and our highest rated freshmen, and he coached up a young roster and took them from being one of the worst teams in the nation to one of the top 5 teams in the SEC. (Assuming we finish 11-7, which probably we won't.)
