The fact that the talent is bad enough to lose to those teams early on but then improved (via coaching) to finish fairly well in conference play speaks towards how effective he’s been as a coach.

Who have you really beaten in conference play? Alabama and Mississippi State? The toughest games are all left to close out really still. If he goes 0-4 on that, still should be considered?

Kentucky
@ LSU
@ Auburn
Arkansas

in reality it'll probably be 9-9 or 8-10, A&M's final conference slate is ridiculously tough.

I tend to agree with you, but I thought we'd lose all 6 of our final games, and we've already won two of them.

I think Buzz should win it if we can go 11-7, and I think 11-7 should win it for him even if Kentucky goes 16-2. Getting UK's roster to 16-2 just isn't as impressive as getting this A&M roster to 11-7.

I could go along with buzz getting it at 11-7 but some of the other coaches in contention would have to falter. Cal should get it if they win out and Buzz or Musselman drop one. While I can somewhat overlook the horrible OOC resume from A&M, I can't overlook it that much.

No, he shouldn't. And we very much might finish 0-4.

Then again, it's not like LSU or Arkansas have been setting the world on fire, and Auburn is vulnerable, too.

Nobody except UK has been playing near perfect basketball that's for sure, but A&M hasn't really knocked off any tourney teams this season either.

Ole Miss (13-14)
@ Vanderbilt (9-18)
@ Missouri (13-14)
@ Tennessee (15-12)
Missouri (13-14)
Georgia (14-13)
@ Alabama (15-12)
Mississippi St (17-10)

We haven't beat Kentucky (haven't played), Auburn (haven't played), Lsu (OT - Up 6 with <2 min left), Florida (Got our arse kicked).

Since Pearl did not get coach of the year last year, there is no way he will be considered this year.

This.

The media & SEC coaches wouldn't award him last year and they won't this year. Same as Chizik not winning COY when he brought AU their first NC in +50 yrs. The SEC coaches & media hated Chiz and they hate Pearl.

On a side note, man how bad is it to have been named SEC COY recently?

2016 - Billy Kennedy - fired 3 years later
2017 - Mike White - Trending down each year since then, fans upset with 19-20 season so far, possibly coaching for job next season?
2018 - Rick Barnes - Having a rough season this year
2019 - Kermit Davis - Yikes this year

It's Cal or Buzz. I think it should be Buzz.
