he’s done about as well as he could recruiting since he’s taken the job. Huge DC hire and some nice assistant additions as well.

Sam Pittman has done an impressive job recruiting to Arkansas. Always a scramble with new coaches, he’s done well at a place desperate for talent.

I don’t know why people are knocking the hire. He will make Arkansas competitive.
-Great recruiter
-Loves Arkansas
-Worked at Georgia for four years

They loved Matt Luke too.
"He is an Ole Miss guy. You won't find anyone that wants this job more than him"
"Matt Luke is the perfect guy for Ole Miss. He knows the kind of culture he needs to create to win"
"Trump needs to be impeached"
frick the national media.

Sam Pittman = the SEC version of Freddie Kitchens

Only people who hate on Pittman don't know his history. He is a great coach, well respected throughout the country, and one of the best recruiters as well.
90% of the coaching industry have to google Drinkwitz to see who he is. He took over a 10 win team and maintained it... wow, so impressive! /s

Sam Pittman = 2005 Ed Orgeron

Also, are they really though? I remember reading an article yesterday which seems to more accurately capture the prevailing sentiment....
quote:
The Razorbacks ran away with the award for most lampooned coaching search within the college athletics community.
quote:
The reaction from athletics director Hunter Yurachek’s colleagues over the last 10 days after hiring Pittman has been equal parts sympathy and bewilderment, as it’s hard to find anyone in college football who believes this will work.
quote:
One of them was Pittman, who had campaigned for the job from the very beginning but had fallen completely off the radar toward the end of the search. Then within a matter of hours on Dec. 8, Pittman went from outside the candidate pool to the head coach — a metaphorical throwing up of the hands on the part of Yurachek.
quote:
Now, Arkansas has no choice but to give Pittman some time. It seems unlikely it will work
USA Today
Cue the “this guy is a hack!” replies in 3......2....1......

I would have thought it would take at a minimum 6 months to completely circumference him.

I get everyone wants to think their new coach is a great hire. I get it. But hes not. He was a desperation hire who had to lobby to get the job. Arkansas fell for the "we got burned by Kiffin so we have to get someone quick to move on from the story" script. Arkansas could have waited a few more weeks and seen where coaches in the NFL wound up. It was a dumb hire

Pittman is not the sexy hire, but he seems like a guy who knows this is a great opportunity and will put in the hours to getting the right staff and building the program.
And honestly it seems like his players love him. I doubt they ever quit on the guy.

I think Pittman is a grand slam, can't miss hire. You'd have to be out of your mind to not think a 60 year old, severely obese, life long position coach wouldn't be able to raise Arkansas up from the ashes. Going from a life long OL coach to a HC isn't that big of a deal.

They may be more competitive. They won't be better than Bama, LSU, Auburn and A&M for a long while. That is their ceiling.

That's no small task.

Reality is Arkansas did not have many choices. They were not going to get a prominent currently winning coach from a power five school. They just had a quick trigger on a good coach from the next tier.
They had to go with a coordinator or other SEC assistant

How long would it take to “come around” that guy? Like 4 hours?

Bit of a stretch even for a Hog

Arky will have to be patient and give this guy at least 5 years to be a winning program. There’s zero talent on the sidelines and it’s going to take a while to be able to compete in the hardest conference in college football.

The bottom line is that NOBODY knows who will be a successful coach and who won't be. It's basically a crap shoot. And until that data on any coach is in, all you have is really shitty narratives that may or may not prove to be correct.
That said, the fact that so many people pull against good and accomplished people like Pittman is kind of sad.
