If Baylor beats TCU and OU on 11/16, then runs the table plus the league championship game. They'll be in the playoffs.

It's supposed to be the best teams, right? Right now the committee believes that Oklahoma is better than Baylor.

Good post. As an LSU Fan but being fair I have much less issue with Ohio State being ahead of LSU than what you point out with OU and Baylor.

I think putting Ohio State #1 is more a way for the committee to say "we do our own ranking, we’re just not going to copy-paste the AP". LSU at #2 is hardly being ignored or not being given a fair chance to make it.

What I don't like is the committee trying to predict the future. Is OU ahead of Baylor because they think OU will beat Baylor? Now that is dangerous. Examine the body of work, digest the metrics, but don't try to play Nostradamus.

The way I hope the committee is doing ranking is based on an earnest evaluation of how teams are performing in the games.

It's fair for teams like Oklahoma, Auburn, Florida, and the pac12 teams to be ranked where they are because we have some solid data points (tough matchups) to evaluate on. win or less, we KNOW Oregon is a good football team because of how they played and nearly beat Auburn. Minnesota and Baylor are fairly uncertain. They have won all their games but the in game performances are inconsistent.

Baylor comfortably beat Kansas st and oklahoma st, both away, but could VERY easily have lost to Iowa st and Texas Tech. Minnesota likewise has their arguably best win vs an FCS team, and went to the wire with georgia southern, and double OT with fresno st. The toughest team they have played in the big10 so far is Illinois. Penn st is probably going to murder them.

A perfect example:

Look at Texas and Okie St... Texas won the head to head. They have the same record. Texas has better losses. Why is Okie St ranked and Texas not ranked?

I fricking hate Baylor, but this is correct.

The influence of brand names and also preseason polls is entirely too heavy.

It's all out of convenience. The committee has given themselves the flexibility to pick whatever argument they want to make their point.

I think most of us just want to know how Okie State is ranked.

The committee was set up to reward the blue blood programs and to keep them relevant no matter what their record is!

Unfortunately college football has become such big money the NCAA has decided they must manage the system for the betterment of college football. And it will never go back to computers decided who gets in and who doesn’t, and they don’t want to leave it up to sports writers to get it right for the NCAA.

A perfect example:

Two teams from the same Conference....

*Oklahoma is 7-1
*Baylor is 8-0

*Oklahoma has defeated zero teams in the Top 25
*Baylor has defeated TWO teams in the Top 25

*Oklahoma LOST at #16 Kansas State by 7 points
*Baylor WON at #16 Kansas State by 19 points

What basis would one have to rank Oklahoma ahead of Baylor at this point in the season? But of course, the Committee did just that, ranking 7-1 Oklahoma at #9 and undefeated Baylor at #12.

This is a perfect example of "Brand" trumping actual facts and results on the field. It's also the same reason Ohio State came in at #1 ahead of LSU who clearly has the better resume.

Last night, and they will not state it publicly, was a Poll.

Then I guess you won't mind putting your money on Baylor in the Oklahoma game

You fail to mention that Baylor beat West Virginia, Iowa State, and Texas Tech by a total of 8 points. Plus, they beat Rice by only 8 points.
Oklahoma has beaten WVU and Texas Tech by 77 points, with Iowa State this week.

It's not all about resume but I 100% agree about Oklahoma being ranked too high.

Ohio State at #1 I dont see the issue with really

This post is so unbelievably misleading in regards to Baylor and OU.

You start a lot of great threads, and do make a couple good points here. That being said, they are not just looking at the K State game when comparing those two teams.

Baylor beat Rice by 9. They “beat” Texas Tech by 3 because the refs missed a call in overtime. They beat Iowa State by 2. They beat West Virginia by 3. If they win out, they’ll be in, but they have not been that impressive so far in relation to the other unranked teams.

I agree. When they look at the resumes, it shouldnt be attached to a school. Random numbers assigned for each school that way then the committee does the rankings, it's based off nothing but resume.
