Would this mean players can sleep on a coach's couch now?

Maybe, maybe not. I think Texas will also have an advantage with the LHN, the same advantage that everyone was concerned about years ago
I didn’t say Texas
Texas is a CFB name brand
I’m talking about dog shite schools that are in big markets
They’re not going to turn into powerhouses

This is not going to end well.

Guess I will be free of my university fandom and I will only pull for teams that have won championships.

Goodbye College Football. I've loved you for 40 years, but all good things must come to an end.

I don’t have disposable money but if I did can I offer to buy the autograph of some 5* recruit Bama is seeking? Or are the kids off limits until after they sign? This will be abused I’m sure but it’s hypocritical to tell ncaa athletes they can’t be capitalist pigs whilst everyone else in this country is one.

Good point could definitely be a boost for TN and other states with no state income tax.

It depends on a lot.
Already the NCAA has showed no spine, so it will definitely be more of a free market. It's like the portal - all you have to do to play the next year in the portal is lawyer up. I mean, there was definitely no legitimate reason for Martell, Fields, etc to start this year
They just hired lawyers, and the NCAA caved.
The really interesting question is what is it going to do to team dynamics? Playing time becomes incredibly important, and schools will be less able to stack talent because everyone wants to play and get some of that money

My guess in the NCAA will regulate it through the schools. There will be a cap amount per player, and any money made from image or likeness must be linked to the school. In other words, for a player to be paid, someone (say Coca-Cola) must go to the AD and say they want an athlete or athletes to be in a commercial. The athletes will then earn money from that, and it will be paid to them through the school. A player won't be allowed to independently profit from their image...it must be their image in relationship to the school they attend.
Although it sounds glamorous, I don't think Nike or whoever will be able to shell out 100k to a single player.
This just seems like adding yet more ways for teams to cheat or gain an advantage.
edited to add: I don't think this will end well, and I wouldn't be surprised if the NCAA comes back saying they couldn't find a feasible way to make this change happen.

Overnight they might not turn into powerhouses, but you have to think about purchasing power and market concentration.
20 Memphis businesses can pay their QB 5k to use in an advertisement and that's 100k.
it is going to be difficult to find 20 businesses in starkville to do the same it will have to extend outward across the state and that will be more difficult to execute than it would be in a big city

Too bad our two big cities don’t care about CFB, otherwise we would be raking.

I personally can't see this providing any sense of parity for the sports it will no doubt affect in the future. The schools would have to add another Admin Dept just to handle the contracts and to keep track of the income generated by each student-athlete. Sounds like an administration and accounting nightmare.

So what about getting a better coach to do well with 3 stars players?

i'm gonna take a job at the IRS and audit your players every year.

I agree, it's going to affect the future and balance structure of college athletics in one way or another...perhaps in a way we cannot predict.
It really becomes complex when you begin to think about all the considerations.
One thing I thought of was how to set prices? Do players need to have their own agents or lawyers to work with companies and/or the school? Perhaps that can be done through the AD, but that again leads to more people schools need to hire in order to keep up with it all.

One point I saw brought up on a different board is that this will be the end of the small market schools. Those with less than P5 budgets were already having a hard time competing, and with all the extra administration costs and staff this will bring, a lot of smaller schools will just close down athletic programs instead of dealing with the extra costs and headaches.
It will be the end of college sports, and only the big boys will compete in a NFL,NBA, MLB type of training league

So are you implying that A&m football is going to take funds from the school just to buy Louisiana players? About the only way what you said makes sense.

At the end of the day, this is what’s going to be most prevalent. People are up in arms about some programs supposedly cheating, so they’re pushing for changes thinking it will even the playing field but it’s really just going to make cheating that much easier to hide.
There are other issues of course, but this is the main one people will discuss.
