So, for most major D1 programs (the top 40 anyway), getting a pool of boosters to commit to about $6-8 million a year to offer ‘endorsement’ deals to a recruiting class would be simple and a no-brainer.

This group would simply offer each of the 5* players (there are only 30 or so) about $300,000 for a 3 year contract (which deters portal jumping for more $) paid out annually to endorse a set of products owned by the members of the group. The 200 or so 4* guys can make $150,000 or so but they have to take it over 4 years (knowing the ones that really pop will go to the NFL early anyway).

Put it all together and my guess is you could secure a very strong class, probably top 5 or so, for $6 million or perhaps a bit less a year. I think there are a lot of booster groups out there for schools that would find this very acceptable.

And, guess what, the bagman now has a legitimate business tax expense! They could even create a startup company that happens to lose... something like $6 million a year... and now its actually a tax write off!

All these pro-pay people keep trying to use olympic athletes, etc as the poster children for this thing, but nobody is scouting those guys in high school to offer them endorsement deals... they have to actually do something to get famous. High school football and basketball players don’t.

I think it was stupid for great Dawgs like AJ Green and Todd Gurley not to be able to sell their own jersey or autograph, but this is a really slippery slope...

What I don’t understand is why they don’t just put the pressure on the NFL and NBA to match the MLB, with an ability to go pro right out of high school. If a kid feels they have the game, then let them go pro right out of the gate and make all the $$ they want. And let college sports remain...

This exactly. The rich will get richer and the others will basically become JV teams.

It would be but I understand at least for football the difference physically for a kid coming out of HS vs a grown man. But I think if they allowed HS to jump to the NFL straight out of HS they could finally create a viable minor league that would make it long term. the leagues they try and create now are for washouts and non drafted guys. I could actually see a rookie league that would viable with top tier HS players that would feed right into the NFL. And basketball did it before with no issues.

Run it like baseball. You can go pro out of HS or go to college and wait 3 years before going pro. That way the choice is on the player to decide.

They can't run it like baseball and still make the money they're making. The NCAA isn't about the "student-athletes" at all. It's about keeping as much of the $1,000,000,000 in annual revenue as they can.

Still a lot of hurdles to clear.
It will be hard to enforce from a compliance standpoint.
Might level the playing field a little bit.
More transfers will result because players are not going to wait to play.
On top of endorsements they will still get money under the table, it will be easier to hide now that you will have that booster/player relationship.
