Well we know your team, whoever you pull for, must be a source of great disappointment, probably bitterness. Payne seems a fitting name - so sorry.

Best wishes from this football board.

Savannah has a more diverse scene due to Savannah state and scad.

For people watching, you can’t beat Charleston, and I still think they have a slight leg up on Savannah with food due to Savannah making leaps and bounds.

But when it comes to a more mysterious sort of fun Savannah is a really awesome place. Open container, art scene is better, less stuck up locals, more successful port.

You have one town that's stuck in old times.... which actually is pretty cool. And you have downtown Atlanta Where Elton John lives... And Little five points. Other than that it's all rednecks and a few mountains, so I guess it's pretty diverse? If that's what you're going for. Or maybe you're going for choking at every game besides in 1980 when Herschel Walker was playing?

I don’t see why anyone would stay in Atlanta post-retirement. It’s always seemed like a place you go to have a career and then get the heck out of. North Georgia is nice but ATL is growing into once rural counties and spoiling the countryside and changing the culture. The coast is ok but the gulf is way nicer. South Ga is ok if you own 500 acres of land to sport around on but every SEC State has that and many without the skeeters and gnats. Both sides of my family go back to the early 1800s in GA; it’s home I guess, but it’s not the best southern state from my standpoint. If I had my pick, I’d like to live in a rural area like I do but with better climate, maybe Ark or Kentucky.

Have you ever been to Colorado? That's the only place I have considered retiring to over Tennessee.

Those are pretty common in Alabama too and they aren't ants; they are wasps. Their nickname, due to their extremely painful sting, is cow killers.

Georgia is cool. I lived there for one year, and in Alabama for two years. Louisiana is the most unique with its history, but not a fan of the people in that state, they're too rude and obnoxious for southerners.

Most people I met in Alabama were cool and down to earth.

Atlanta sucks. I’m not sure why it would be considered superior to Houston or Dallas. They’re all giant cities with no personality, never ending sprawl, traffic, international airports, etc. I grew up in Dallas, but choose to live in Alabama. I avoid ATL at all costs, but like Savannah.

Georgia should lose “cool points” for Atlanta.

You sound like aggy.

Once the losses hit, you talk about how good everything else is around you.

If it weren't for the cold frickin winters I would move to Colorado in a heartbeat. Between the scenery and the legal weed I would be a happy camper there if I could avoid freezing to death

Dammit baw, ALL Southern states are awesome.

Pretty much this.

We've been to most (all) of them, and there are awesome people and places everywhere.

FWIW, if I had to pick a place to retire in the south, I think I'd settle on Northern Arkansas, for the trout fishing alone.

I will give you Savannah over Charleston due to the Chucktown stuckup factor. Metro Atlanta just isn't that great - lived here long enough to appreciate the pros and cons. Its sprawl city without much soul. The areas with any character are ridiculously expensive.

I would say the best region in the South is eastern Tennessee/western NC. If that were a state - it would be the third best state outside of Colorado and Montana. The relative proximity of western NC to South Carolina beaches is a big plus.

Yes, Georgia is the best State in the South at being overhyped! Atlanta Falcons sux, Braves lose to inferior team again, Hawks always sux, Georgia craps it pants again, Georgia Tech is Georgia Tech, you lost your hockey team but hey all the illegals are happy because you do have a descent soccer team. Yea!!!! Hope you enjoy your 2 hour commute on 75, 85, and 285. God it a great to be in Georgia ????????????????

I don’t think success of sports teams was what the OP was referring to. I have to wholeheartedly agree with you about the traffic, though. I can’t see spending the equivalent of an extra one or two work days in traffic on a weekly basis. But, a lot of suburbanites can’t see living in East Bum either, and that’s cool, as well. To each his own. There are pros and cons of living everywhere .
