Is College Football In A Death Spiral?

Is it just me or is this season really boring?
The SEC teams are all either top 15, or atrocious, with the majority of the conference being terrible. The next Alabama game worth watching isn’t until 10/12 when we play the mediocre Aggies. That’s a month from now.
Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi St, are all games that are hardly worth watching whereas not too long ago these games would’ve been somewhat competitive
All over the country this is happening.
OSU plays nobody. Everyone else in the Big 10 is barely worthy of a power 5 conference.
Clemson plays nobody. Everyone else in the ACC is like a non power 5 team.
The Pac 10 is going the way of the Big East. They’re becoming completely irrelevant.
The Big 12 is a 2-team conference.
Outside of OSU, Clemson, Texas, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Alabama, LSU, and Georgia, it seems like everyone else is consistently struggling with non P5 schools.
College football is slowly becoming a joke.
Look for attendance to keep dwindling, and I honestly believe that the programs that are currently dead, will stay that way for the foreseeable future. The marquee programs will continue to keep it alive, but for how much longer if the current trend continues?
The future of college football is looking more and more like it’ll be the top 10 teams, and then a giant trash heap below them

The lack of elite programs or even good programs is hurting the sport.
There's a BIG drop off after the top 5'ish, you see all these teams ranked in the teens that re supposed to be still pretty good and none of them really are.
I mean the entire PAC12 is a graveyard. The ACC outside of Clemson might as well be FCS.

The majority of the reason for that is recruiting. Just look at where all the blue chippers are going right now. Same 5 or 6 teams.
I think I saw a stat a few weeks back where Georgia had like 24, 5* players. Auburn has not had that many 5* guys in 20 years.
But its early in the season and shite is about to start to happen. Hang on for another couple of weeks. It will get better

I love CFB, but I've made arguments that the NFL has been more interesting (in terms of new matchups/teams that are in the championship hunt) in comparison to what we've got now. Sucks, but I don't necessarily disagree with your post.

I think it will get a little bit better once the conference games get going in full swing. You are right about all those teams sucking but the rivalries are still fun to watch.

Unfortunately this has become a bigger issue lately. You'll have the occasional team have a good year, and of course the media darlings that they "want" to be good, but the times have changed. It's all about money, facilities, recruiting, and name recognition now. Outside of the one or maybe two schools in the big 12, Clemson, and OSU it's the big 4-5 in the SEC.
The media will always try and pump up Notre Dame, and a PAC12 school, but very rarely can the compete. The bowl games outside of those in the playoff have lost their luster. Kinda sad, but that's how it is now. If your not a playoff team then it doesn't really mean much other then the moral victory.
Hate to say it but Saban, and reasently Dabo have kinda ruined things for everyone else. That being said if it weren't for Saban LSU would be another also ran.

Last I checked the top qbs that run an rpo type offense are Hurts, Tua, Burrow, Lawrence, and Fields. Pretty diverse group if you ask me.
May have been an observation, but it was a pretty piss poor of one for sure.

That fact that you refer to them as blacks confirms your racism.

Need to cut out the rent a wins and neutral site games. Maybe play one non conference gimme a year.

I think it is declining. Seems like so many teams are getting worse and not better . This kills fan support.

There's another angle to this whole "Death Spiral."
I personally don't care about Ohio State or Oklahoma. If those two teams were to meet in the championship game I wouldn't watch. I'd hear about it the next day while I'm making my coffee.
There's been a lot of talk about how it is only a limited number of teams that have a chance to make and win the playoff.
But in the end it is entertainment, and for that you need to have a reason for a lot of people to be interested in your product.
If I am a guy from Jersey, Boston, Seattle, Montana, Virginia - why am I interested in this playoff again? The team I root for has basically no chance to make the playoff, and if they do once in a blue moon, they will probably get annihilated in the first playoff game.

Would be a lot more fun to watch if bama was getting called on all the holding they do, while whoever plays them is getting all the ticky tacky penalties and having two TDS taken off the board....

In the past schools like Georgia State would never beat Tennessee and Fla State would never be in a shootout against ULM. Small schools have closed the gap. Recruiting has changed. When Bama, Ohio St, LSU, Georgia, and Clemson get all the elite recruits, everyone else gets the scraps

Saban has ruined college football.

But it has just about always been like that for most of the people living in those cities/states. When was the last time the University of Virginia or even Virginia Tech were in a major bowl game? You have to go back almost a decade to find the last time a team from Virginia made it to a NY6 bowl or higher.
Here's the inconvenient truth of it all, college football is fast becoming a regional sport. Within the next 20 years, if something doesn't change, college football will be just like college baseball. Only southern teams and the occasional outlier from the Midwest (i.e. Ohio State) or Pacific region (i.e. USC) will be in the championship picture year in and year out.

It’s becoming boring because Clemson is clearly the dominant football school in the country now and I liked it better when Alabama could actually compete in postseason games. Now it’s a foregone conclusion that the soon to be septuagenarian Saban is going to get his arse kicked because the game has passed him and Dabo owns him.
It’s really a shame.
