To me it sounds like you left a better place for a less desirable location, but I’m also glad others have different opinions or else nobody would live in places like Kansas or South Dakota.

Location is important to me. I passed on arguably more academic residency options because I wanted to live in a geographically better area. I ranked a smaller program in Birmingham over UMMC Jackson, South AL in Mobile, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport, and I’m not upset at all. I’d rather be in Birmingham than any of those other places, and I know I’ll be happier because of it. Didn’t get UAB unfortunately, but many of my colleagues did.
