Please provide a link or anything other than your worthless opinion of this being true.
I watched that game (and have watched/listened tobasically every other OU game since 1977). I saw the Schooner get stuck in the mud negating the FG and we missed the retry. You Sir, don’t know jack shite about that game or its circumstances.

We are all subject to recency bias, so arguing over that 1 split championship won 50+ years ago during 125+ years of playing football is a waste of time.
The next championship is what matters most.
This makes no sense considering your own fanbase's obsession over Arkansas claiming to have a championship in '64. You would think that big time programs like Alabama would continue to forge ahead to future titles rather worry about what happened 50+ years ago.

From 04-present Bama was eligible to be in consideration for a national championship.
1993 Auburn was not allowed to be considered to being a major Poll national champion.
Two different things.

Again not sure why you are fighting this. Alabama was on probation for the NC.
But keep bringing up Auburn. Very lil bro like

They tried to get a Top 5 matchup but too many folks wanted that big bowl deal, that includes Oklahoma.
FWIW bowl Tie ins don’t mean a team has to accept a deal, only that the conference has to provide a worthy team. Hell Bama played ND in the Orange bowl in 1974 instead of the Sugar bowl.

I'm truly not intending to sound like a smartass, but am aware of how the following may be taken...
Bama won the 2 pre-bowl major polls that year. The FWAA was a post bowl award, so that is one variance.
That said, I go back to... why? Why does it matter so much if another fan base validates your NC or not. It makes you sound obsessed with a need for trolls and assholes to provide third party recognition.
quote:this makes no sense as I'd argue few to none are obsessed with it. It is one of many split NCs. Bama's trophy room holds multiple FWAA Grantland Rice trophies, so it isn't as if the University doesn't recognize it.

quote:dude... come on bruh. Bama and its fans are a wide variety of things over a very wide spectrum, but lil' bro to Auburn in anything remotely football related is not one of them.
Very lil bro like

Well we are the older team. And everything used as a trait of a lil bro in this context is what he is doing. So yes very lil bro like.

I hope y'all didn't pull an FSU and retroactively change your founding date.

Umm it absolutely is... again all the lil bro traits are being exhibited he’ll look at the board. We aren’t even playing bama this week and your fan base can’t help but obsess.

Dude, I’m not replying any more after this.
Your link was a recap of the game & did not mention OU refusing to play BYU. It did mentioned that OU coach Switzer lobbied that that the winner of OU/Wash be considered the default champion. He did do that-at the prompting of Orange Bowl to get better ratings. Switzer discussed all of this in his book Bootleggers Boy & even alluded to having a waste water treatment plant named in his honor in Utah.

We've already tried to explain to him about the bowl tie-ins back then. Just pat him on the head and move on.

Do teams really have total control of their schedule?
Most teams play their conference, try to get a neutral site or home&home with a power 5 and fill the others with a game for the walkons.
I’m ok with teams claiming when they win all games. Other teams can claim polls, playoff, etc. it’s not a big deal to me.
