Why are some schools' National Championship "claims" more valid than others

I see many trolls on this site (namely OU and Bama posters) who would argue till they are blue in the face that the Hawg's 1964 National Championship is not legit. The team claimed to be champions. They were undefeated and and a major national champion selector, Grantland-Rice/FWAA, voted Arkansas as the national champion.

Georgia and Kentucky, on the other hand, are routinely awarded Nattys in '42 and '51, respectively, that are based solely on computer rankings from decades after those seasons ended. Why are these legit and Arkansas' 1964 isn't? For that matter, Arkansas has a computer-based Championship from '77. Why isn't it legit? Why is there this massive double-standard?

I would like to clear this up once and for all -
Here are the NCAA's recognized national champions

NCAA-recognized National Championships

According to the NCAA - Here is every SEC school's total number of national championships (alphabetical order if 2 or more schools have the same number)

1) Alabama - 15
2) LSU - 4
3) Florida - 3
4) Auburn - 2
5) Tennessee - 2
6) Texas A&M - 2
7) Arkansas - 1
8) Georgia - 1
9) Ole Miss - 1

NCAA doesnt recognize football champions until the playoffs. they only recognize some major selectors. Your link and stats also are not correct as the NCAA has different numbers in their actual record books

After WWII it is generally accepted that unless you won the AP or UPI you were not national champions. This was just the standard.

That may be true but here is what the NCAA says from the website
quote:

College football national champions from 1869 to 2017

We can only go off of this information since the NCAA gives us this as their somewhat official stance.

Alabama won the AP and UPI/Coaches polls.

Yes, It was a split National Championship. '64 is counted as both Arkansas and Alabama in the list

If your school won a NC, and none of the students at the time of the alleged NC were aware of it, and none of the newspapers at the time of the NC reported it, and there are no players' rings or trophies that were awarded at that time, then that's an Ole Miss imaginary NC.

LSU has 3 actual NCs.

The site you linked has 15 listed for Alabama. Why did you only list 13?

Because we beat Oklahoma's arse in the sugar bowl, ruining their 2 season win streak, and we have one of these

The point being, is there seems to be two standards. One for everyone else. One for Alabama.

Don’t want to count 1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, and 1941? Only want to count Alabama’s AP or UPI/coaches poll titles. Then do it for everyone.

Alabama lost their fricking bowl game to Texas who Arkansas defeated and Arkansas went undefeated.

It is fricking bullshite that Alabama claims this BS title and mocks Arkansas for claiming it. This should be a unanimous Arkansas title because they were the only undefeated team in college football

I went straight off the list from the NCAA. Each time an SEC school was listed, I wrote it down. I treated Bama the same as everyone else

I’m not talking about your link. I’m talking about the general discussion of this topic. And how it goes every time.

Yeah, pretty sure that was awarded 50+ years after the fact.
