all of those Bama #1 classes had a tad more to do with Kirby than with Saban?

I'm not reading through 5 pages of this. I'm sure these points have been covered, but I'll reiterate.

Our best class ever was without Kirby. Kirby is a great recruiter, but so is Pruitt and a lot of other coaches we have and have had.

This year was an anomaly.

We had several coaches on the team that were not up to usual Bama standards in recruiting. They've been replaced.

The offense with Hurts didn't do much to excite a lot of recruits.

It was always going to be a smaller class for Bama this year.

Our coordinators and several other position coaches were in flux during the time when we needed to be sealing the deal with recruits.

And, I think the new early signing period threw a monkey wrench in Saban's normal well-oiled recruiting machine.

Expect all of those things to be remedied next year and Bama to return to scorched earth policy recruiting.

None of that takes away from what UGA has done in recruiting. And, I'm sure they'll continue to do well. But, don't get too giddy thinking Bama is going anywhere. There were issues, and they've been addressed.

If Tua started the Championship Game the score would have been something like 42-20. Kirby had no answers for how to stop Tua. Your Defense looked lost out there after Tua's 2nd series in the game. Just be thankful that Hurts started and played 2 quarters otherwise that game isn't even close.

Good point Jake. If Tagovailoa had played the entire game, it might have gotten ugly for UGA, and these front runners wouldn't be talking so much silly shite.

edit: "silly shite" as in all the trash talk since the SEC title game and early recruiting period. The board has been full of it. I would note, however, that the majority of front runners on the board have been posters who registered the last few months. Most of the UGA fans are reasonable.

This thread is a fricking abortion and the Op is a moron. Saban doesnt need Smart to recruit. The original message was just a idiot homer overreacting to a great signing class trying to rustle Bama jimmies...which makes even less sense considering we just fricking lost to them for the Natty.

The UGA class was great and we out-recruited Bama, but that is bound to happen as coaches are continually poached from Saban. If we ever win a natty, you will see it happen in Athens, hell iI was surprised Mel Tucker is still in ATown

Oh good grief.....

Yes, Georgia did very well in recruiting this year (but they usually do fairly well anyway), UGA did play in the NC game, and Alabama did not finish #1 in recruiting for the first time since 2010.

However Alabama could not sign a full allotment of recruits, <20.

Alabama under Coach Saban just reloads what it needs to be successful and that includes assistant coaches.

While UGA did play for the NC, so too have many teams, once. We shall see if UGA makes it back, after losing quite a few quality starters (I doubt UGA has as much quality depth as many of you UGA fans think.)

UGA did very well against Alabama in the first half, but still only produced 13 points against an Alabama team that played one of its worse halves of the year. The second half was all Alabama, with UGA having one very lucky play for a TD.

People mentioned (as did I) that the last time Alabama did not finish #1 in recruiting was 2010. I might remind everybody that Alabama proceeded to win the next 2 national titles (2011, and 2012).......

The Alabama dynasty will one day end, and perhaps it has already started. However I doubt that, because as long as Alabama has Coach Saban, Alabama will be one of the top teams in the country, and continue to win national titles (notice I did not say compete for).....

Now, if Coach Smart is still at UGA when Coach Saban retires, then perhaps UGA will take Alabama's place at the head of the table. Good Luck.......

This is a lot of responses to a random guy on a message board... named Dick Leverage.

Georgia is in good shape. I’m afraid Mark Richt may have lost control of them though.

Stop it. An explosive player got behind Alabama, and Fromm made a big time throw. There wasn't anything lucky about it.

Inconclusive evidence.

It was a great play whether he stepped out or not. It was a 60 yard completion even if he did step out.

No what's lost on you is when Bama had a competent QB Bama outscored you 26-7. Kirby was fine defending a one demensional offense but as we saw when he was at Bama his defense struggles against well balanced offenses.

It’s almost like a one dimensional offense is easier for other team to stop...

Nope. Saban is the master recruiter. He said so himself to Mal Moore on the plane ride to UA after accepting the job.

Kirby did learn from the master though and has a ton of momentum. Torch is passing I believe.

That Kirby had a hand in. They don't start recruiting 2019 kids after the 2018 class is singed. They recruiting 2-3 years ahead.

Maybe. Even probably. I can't say and neither can you. We'll know in a couple of years.

It was always going to be a smaller class for Bama this year.
And if the smaller class were the only issue, you would have a point. The average ranking per kid was down, too. With fewer targets it should have given the staff more time to get the players they wanted.

The offense with Hurts didn't do much to excite a lot of recruits.
I don't know, and don't care to check, but was the offensive production that much out of whack from previous years? I mean pass/run ratio, etc?

Our coordinators and several other position coaches were in flux during the time when we needed to be sealing the deal with recruits.

This has been the casr for years, though. I mean, when you have the success Alabama has had, you lose staff every single year. We lost some crucial coaches, too.
Granted, not a OC and a DC. I can certainly see where those would impact you, though.

And, I think the new early signing period threw a monkey wrench in Saban's normal well-oiled recruiting machine.
Understood, and understandable. But everybody went to the new early signing period. Smart has a system, I'm sure, similar to Saban, but he adjusted.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit. We should all know more in a year or two. I never count Saban out.

I don't think anybody thinks Bama is going anywhere.

There were issues, and they've been addressed.
They've been addressed? how do you know this? Has Saban come out and said y'all had issues, but they've been addressed, or are you assuming this based on past history?

Nice guess, but that is all it is. I could just as easily say that it would have been a tie at the end of the first half, and Kirby would have made adjustments and shut Tua down.

How are either of us going to prove our point? Because we feel....or we think....I mean, Oklahoma had Georgia down by 14 at the half and we came back and won without changing personnel, so obviously adjustments can be made. Oklahoma scored 1 offensive TD in the second half of that game.
