Dude, I hav'nt commented on the stupid shite you post on here and the Georgia board but have thought you were a try hard for a long time. You get ginned up on trying to be the popular guy on a message board. LOL.

Ok.

First of all IDGAS about popularity anywhere... least of all on an anonymous message board. Strange leap to try and make... that doesn't change that your OP was flat out bad.

Let's quote it so we can break it down:

quote:

Kirby just finished with one of the greatest all time classes.

UGAs 2019 class is on track to be #1 also, maybe better than this class.

Alabama had a long run of #1 classes with Kirby.

Kirby left and the #1 class syndrome followed him to Athens.

Maybe....just maybe....all of those Bama #1 classes had a tad more to do with Kirby than with Saban? Just saying. Not wanting to discredit Saban but starting to wonder if he pulls all those #1 classes in a row minus Kirby doing the actual work.

It's actually been discussed plenty (see: what happened to Alabama recruiting thread on the recruiting board IIRC - could have been a different one, but same general concept). 2017 Alabama was done without Smart... What was the score of that class? Oh... that's right: 323.87

To insinuate in any fashion that somehow Alabama only recruited at an elite level due to Smart is asinine and borderline retarded. You have made good posts on our boards in the past, I don't think you're a dumb person, you just made a dumb thread. It's ok... it happens to the best of us.

If I have an abundance of stupid shite that I post on here, please let me know in the future. I'd love to get an expert's opinion on it.

Pretty confident. I RA'd back during the season though when it was pretty obvious then.

And I still can't stop laughing at this

quote:

manhandled for much of the NC game

Lost the game, lost the YPP, lost the total yardage. Outscored 26-10 over the 2nd half and OT.

That's delusion brotha. Or alter trolling. Probably alter trolling.

GA!s 2017 class was # 3. Kirbys first year and he managed this while putting together a staff and spending a good part of Dec getting Bama ready to face Clemson. Look what he was able to do once Ga got his full attention. Many are starting to suspect that he was Bamas recruiting genius and that his absence is being felt.

His first class was 2016. That was the class that came directly after he coached at Alabama.

2017 came after he went 8-5 and went to the Liberty Bowl.

I'm shocked you didn't know that. Simply shocked.

Who is this "many" you are referring to?

Alabama signed its highest rated class ever the year AFTER Kirby left.

Is it that hard to comprehend?

Apparently it is nearly impossible to comprehend. Though, to be fair, SaturdayInClarkeCountyAllOtherDaysInRabunCounty doesn't seem real good with his dates or numbers.

Fair enough. Sorry for calling you a try hard. LOL

I really don't think it was a dumb thread though. Saban will recruit on an elite level with anyone he has on staff. I wonder if Bama recruited on the "7 #1 classes in a row" level more because of Kirby than any other factor.

Put any other assistant in Smarts position for the first 6 of those 7 classes. We will throw away the 17 class to be fair. Do they have 6 straight #1 classes from 11-16? I really don't think so. Maybe three #1s and a 3 other top fives. I guess we will see over the next 2-4 years.

Smart was CLEARLY an elite recruiter on Saban's staff. One of, if not the best. But he was an assistant coach. He had regions and specific players and in the grand scheme it's a pretty small piece of the overall pie. If Kirby was great and everyone else sucked then Alabama's classes would have been 4-5 really solid kids from Kirby's group and the overall class would be 22nd.

Those staff's had other GREAT recruiters on them (see the list I posted above).

So, while he was great, he was one of a bunch of great recruiting assistants. The thing he clearly learned and was talented at was running the recruiting, something he has done a helluva job of at Georgia. But that isn't really something he DID at Alabama. So, honestly, the skillset that he is using now isn't exactly the same as it was then in a lot of ways.

Long story short, I don't think any assistant coach is somehow the key to holding a program's recruiting together. They just aren't able to have that much sway over the entire process unless they have a unique role as the guy running ALL of recruiting.

Let's just see what happens to UGA first time Smart is caught with coaches paying players like Saban. Let's see if he can just fire the coach and it all go away.

It's the internet bub... not a big deal. It's just that we have had a *massive* influx of shitposters on here... and as entertaining as that can be, it's also draining to listen to "these UGA posters are the worst" on an endless loop. It used to just be Auburn posters saying it... and it was typically inaccurate on the whole... Now it's most fanbases, and to be frank, they're starting to become more accurate. I have suspicions that some of them are alters (SNA, ZS, and some others), but some of them are just legitimately awful posters. They'll join the ranks of Phan, Ms Garrison, and plenty of other shitty posters on here though... they're in good company I suppose.

I probably was a bit overly critical because it's about the 12th time some variation of "Kirby might have been the reason for all of Alabama's success" *just* from what I've seen, and I typically avoid a lot of threads that are obviously garbage. The short of it is: Saban is an elite coach and he is a really good recruiter - he also *hires* good recruiters... so it's not terribly surprising that Smart both has the skillset on his own, but has picked up a lot of how Saban operates. Fortunately for us, the Fromm's did a good job of breaking down that Smart does things his own way, so it's not a carbon copy - he does what works for him. In 2017 and 2018, it went pretty well. 2019 is stacking up nicely as well... We'll see how it finishes as well as future classes, but I like the trajectory.

That's a bit of a different hypothetical... maybe not consecutive #1 classes, but remove Kirby and put in an "acceptable DC" by Saban standards and I bet they don't finish under 3rd at all... probably still more than half #1 classes. No way to know other than gut feelings though.
