I know some Arky posters won't like it, but expectations are different and they should be. I don't think Arkansas is necessarily on any particular rise, but the program is on a solid path toward solid results. I continue to think, as I did initially, that BB's approach is going to result in consistency for Arkansas, but not elite seasons. And Arkansas fans should probably be ok with that, at least for some period of time. I don't know that they will be, of course.
Auburn, on the other hand, craves a more advanced variant of what Arkansas is moving toward - consistency. Whereas a 5 year run of 8 win seasons may be what BB is building (and would be great for that program), Auburn really needs Gus to put together a 5 year run averaging 9-10+ wins. While we'll certainly take wide fluctuations if those come with championships, I don't think we can bank on that continuing.
As for Auburn's current status, I agree that Auburn has the pieces in place to get back into fighting shape. I am concerned about the QB situation, the start of the schedule and potential for complacency, and how Gus has called games of late. Those things all have the potential to send us into a spiral. But, as unhappy with Gus as I am, I think he's still a good offensive mind. I think our defense is primed to be at least competitive, and we've got a reasonable amount of talent.
If Gus does what he needs to, Auburn's "slide" *should* stop this season. Doesn't mean we'll be challenging for the conference, but if we can survive the first month (coach's job) and get generally better over the course of the year, things should be fine.

Somebody go back and post threads from when arkie played Toledo last season. CFB is a fickle game. If Gus wins 9 or 10 this will be a non issue. In fairness the expectations at arkie are considerably lower so Bert has that going for him.

Lulz. Malzahn was still in the national title hunt in Nov of '14. Arky has never been in a natty hunt. Malzahn had one bad year, the same year Arky lost to some northern directional school, and they feel like the 85 Bears. Oh, Malzahn had a top 10 recruiting class this year, which is higher than any Arky class ever. The delusion is real with you guys.
This is one of those self hating posts isn't it? Because you know someone will say... yes... but they beat you. And we did thank you.
If you want to go pure fact based... you've lost 9 of your last 11 SEC games. We've won 5 out of our last 8. Bragging about how you get better recruiting classes and then do less with them is not going to help your cause son.

Can an Arkansas fan or Auburn fan chime in and explain why there is so much animosity between the programs ?

That's a bit revisionist.
Not saying opinions were he was going to be Heisman, but "trash" it quite the stretch

For many it has to do with Gus but I don't really care either way about him

Of all the things in the thread that have been overstated or understated, my statement wasn't that far off. It was very odd.

There's not. For some reason, Arky thinks they are on AU's level interms of program success, when in reality they are on par with MSU.

I would actually ague that it's the other way around and a lot of Auburn fans can't grasp that for some odd reason.

That is actually a good point. The Auburn fans that do grasp this really shouldn't be criticizing Bert.

I honestly have more faith in Ricky Town than Austin Allen, but both are decent QB's who can manage the offense.

Not surprisingly your post takes an anti-Arkansas approach.
There is plenty of ammo for any post to take an anti-Arkansas approach. It's called reality.

I won't speak for them but I think a lot of it on our end is we see ourselves, rightly or wrongly, as being on a different level in the college football pecking order. No one likes to get shite talked by someone they consider to be beneath them and with our series being fairly even they have had a lot of opportunities to talk said shite. We are also one of the most easily rustled fanbases around so it makes us an easy target.

Well at least you openly admit your bias and ignore legit questions.
