I get the impression that Bielema is kind of old school in his belief that he doesn't have to have all the blue chippers to win.

I think it is just more of him trusting his ability to judge talent. He has done a great job of it in his career. Obviously he isn't going to turn 5-4 stars down but he is being realistic.

I think he can win sometimes that way but I think that you won't get to the top routinely in a league where everyone is recruiting so well. Maybe he will prove me wrong.

The problem is that it would be difficult for any coach to reach the top on the league routinely at Arkansas. The division has been very deep the past few years.

Gus Malzahn is in the same coaching category as Butch Jones and Art Briles. That says everything you need to know about Auburn.

Bret Bielema has a different style, one that Arkansas was woefully ill equipped for.

Bret's style is a solid program built with depth, consistency and accountability. Arkansas, as a football school, has had zero depth since Danny Ford. Houston Nutt spent a decade, winning with two of the greatest talents in Arkansas history, Matt Jones and Darren McFadden, but he built no depth, many players didn't qualify and he failed. Then we had Bobby Petrino. He also took the shortcut routes of Malzahn, Jones and Briles, and while he achieved success.. the cupboard was bare and the success was due to his brilliance as probably the best game day offensive coach in football, not to the quality of the players or the program. Arkansas hasn't had the ability to build anything since 1997. Bret Bielema has taken steps to correct those problems and build up depth in both quantity, quality and standards. We are improving, not as fast as we would like, but then again, we're not taking shortcuts. Most importantly, Arkansas is still a school you would feel ok having your daughter attend, not like the programs run by the glorified high school coaches who let their players do what they want as long as they can play football.
