Not so, as long as they agree to play them annually, Oklahoma will now make the move.
Think:
Florida-FSU
USC-Clemson
Georgia-GT
UK - Louisville
NEED:
TAMU - Texas
Oklahoma - OSU
And this my friends, is what we call the first super conference. From there, it's a matter of the rest of the Big 12 running to the Pac and B1G and we have 3 super conferences that take all the money and revenue.

If we get more teams, something needs to change.
It is ridiculous how rarely we already get to play certain teams.
I miss playing Florida so much.

You're joking, right?

Southern Conference:
Talks of a new conference for southern athletics had started as early as fall of 1920.[8] The conference was formed on February 25, 1921 in Atlanta as fourteen member institutions split from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.[1] Southern Conference charter members were Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Washington & Lee. In 1922, six more universities – Florida, LSU, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tulane, and Vanderbilt joined the conference. The first year of competition for the conference was in 1922, effective January 1.[9][10] The new rules banned freshman play.[11] Later additions included Sewanee (1923), Virginia Military Institute (1924), and Duke (1929).

or between the top two finishers of a single division league that plays a round robin schedule.
So if we go to 16 we'll either
A: Petition the NCAA to get the rule changed (who knows if that would work)
B: Switch to a single division structure with 3-4 permanent opponents while everyone rotates. This will result in tiebreakers among the top 2 and likely situations where teams involved in said tiebreakers haven't played each other.
C: Keep 2 divisions but scrap permanent opponents. Full rotations around the league will still take 20+ years
D: Keep 2 divisions AND permanent opponents which will result in even more scheduling absurdity than we have now. Teams like LSU and UGA will play at each others place maybe once every 25 years.

One North Carolina school and one Virginia school are the only reasonable options for expansion, monetarily and culturally.

Totally agree, if we add any teams, they are going to be from states that are currently not represented.

University of Oklahoma President David Boren told the Tulsa World on Thursday night he wants “comprehensive reform” of the Big 12 Conference.
That includes an expansion to 12 teams, the folding of the Longhorn Network and other third-tier TV properties into a Big 12 network and a conference football championship game.
His comments came in an interview with Tulsa World sports columnist John E. Hoover.
Boren on Wednesday released a statement to the Oklahoma Daily student newspaper:
“The Big 12 is disadvantaged when compared to the other conferences in three ways. We do not have at least 12 members, we do not have a conference network and we do not have a championship game. I think that all three of these disadvantages need to be addressed at the same time. Addressing only one without addressing all three will not be adequate to improve the strength of the conference.”
The NCAA Division I council on Wednesday approved a measure that would allow the Big 12 to play a conference title game in football with only 10 members.
Playing a round-robin schedule is part of the new rule. This season, Oklahoma would have had to play Oklahoma State in a conference title game the week after OU had beaten the Cowboys. Last year, in the scenario, TCU and Baylor would have played weeks after Baylor’s victory at home.
...and one of the biggest reasons A&M and Missouri left the Big Twatever Conference is???

Add NC State and Va Tech, slide Mizzou over to the west.
Done.
Done.

Oklahoma can't be in the SEC.... that state didn't secede.
Unlike our Yankee "friends" in Kentucky and Missouri Oklahoma was not even a state during the civil war. They therefore get a pass on that important detail and though not southern are not damn Yankees either.

Oklahoma also barely provides a viewership boost in comparison to a Virginia or North Carolina school

I agree. LSU fans don't get to go back to Athens until 2025 which is fricking ridiculous.

But, a Southern conference that does not include NC and Virginia?

OU isn't happening without Ok State. In other words it isn't happening at all.
Virginia and Virginia Tech are in a similar situation.
Well they still could play a rivalry game every year same as UG/GT FL/fsu etc

Ya, I really don't like Mizzou being in the East. I understand why they did it but it can be easily fixed by adding to teams on the east coast.

Mizzou to west, Auburn to east

Missouri and Kentucky were represented on the confederate battle flag by the 12th and 13th stars, respectively. Yet you give a pass to Oklahoma which is less "southern" than both of them... Ok

quote:Just curious, what do the individual SEC schools make off the SECN?
Texas reportedly makes near $15 million a year from ESPN, and it seems unlikely it would be interested in taking a major paycut for the good of the conference
I know the SEC is a better brand than the Big XII, but I would think if they rebranded LHN to B12N and set it up like the SECN is set up, UTx would still make good money - maybe make $12MM as opposed to $15MM - and get a more stable conference because of it.

The OU President Boren is pissed. Just last night he made his demands clear in interview. Go to 12 teams, convert LHN into b12 network, and have b12 championship game. He said all 3 must happen right away, and then hinted that OU will be gone otherwise. LINK
Boren can say whatever he wants. He will do what Texas tells him to and he will like it. And whatever he does, Okie State is doing, too.

You obviously don't understand the fricking longhorns. It's not about the money.
