#149 Oklahoma State is that bad. (And that ranking reinforces my belief that US News is clueless, with them above the rantards at Texas Tech and, sadly, MSU) And as long as T. Boone Pickens is alive, Oklahoma isn't going anywhere without Oklahoma State.

Even the derpiest birds have to be thrown from the nest eventually. OSU will either fly or land on the crown of its head, breaking its spine.

Either way, nothing of value would be lost.

Disclaimer: Aggies would HATE OU coming to the SEC. Those bastards have been stealing Texas recruits for decades and that has only recently started making moves in the right direction. Bringing them to the SEC moves them back to their good old days. Adrian Peterson, Billy Sims, etc.

But my scenario cuts Texas out of the picture, because they'd be floundering much like they have been ever since Colt McCoy got his hymen torn in the NCG.

Damn, Duke in the SEC? I dunno haha. That would be awesome doe.

I'm not a big fan of bringing in Okie, but it is the most likely of all moves. Tamu, mizz, now Okie. Big 12 reunion

Yeah, Duke would be the dream scenario. OU is probably the most likely to actually happen. Duke would definitely offset that addition from an academic and prestige standpoint.

The basketball would be a huge bonus.

OU to SEC isn't happening, too many schools would be opposed, they are parasites.

Oklahoma doesn't have enough TV market to make them a worthy expansion target.

I can see where some people at TAMU might be opposed, but no one else really.

I'm all for Texas floundering, but I think they're doing a fine job of that on their own without you trying to break up the OU/OSU marriage.

Back to the original question, why do we want to add anybody? Is it really inevitable? I actually sympathize with others here who wish the SEC was still 12 and you got to play everybody more often than once a decade.

If Duke came in Vanderbilt would have to seriously step up their game which Vandy fans would probably appreciate. Right now, their administration can just sit back and say we're the academic school but Duke would challenge that and have a better AD. Kentucky, OTOH, would be mad but I think a lot of fans would enjoy seeing that as an annual matchup.

It's more about breaking up the OU/Texas marriage. OU is sort of like a battered spouse with Stockholm syndrome in that deal. OSU is sort of like the lamprey hanging on to the whole thing.

It's less about wanting to add anyone (I was fine with the SEC consisting of ten schools, honestly) and more about preemptively grabbing up the hottest commodities.

If, say, it looks like B1G and P12 are going to expand, you don't want the SEC stuck with the worst choices. You want to grab those schools which will either bring a TV market, add a huge multiplier to an existing TV market due to the value of their brand or add some sort of prestige value.

I just don't want us to get stuck with West Virginia as the best possible option is all.

As Prof mentioned, Duke would give Vandy an academic rival and Kentucky a basketball rival.

Oklahoma could potentially provide some very large-drawing football matchups.

UK would love to be in the same conference as Duke. We've petitioned them to play us annually for decades.

They refuse. They couldn't dodge us in conference play, however.

I doubt we'll ever get a series with them before Krzyzewski retires. After that Duke will decline strongly and won't be worth the effort.

Krzyzewski is Duke.

I had no idea they were dodging y'all. Seems as silly as Memphis not wanting to play us in basketball. Fans of both teams lose out and it's doubled in our case since so many in the state are fans of both teams. Whereas playing is a win-win for everybody.

I get what you're saying with Coach K but Duke won't give up that spot easily now that they have it. They're 'new money' in the same way Florida is but UF didn't go back to where they'd been when Spurrier left. He was there long enough to establish something, get the fans rabid about football, and their university completely committed to it. I think Duke is fully committed to basketball now and they'll pay any price to keep it going even after Coach K retires.
