Oklahoma President Demands

University of Oklahoma President David Boren told the Tulsa World on Thursday night he wants “comprehensive reform” of the Big 12 Conference.
That includes an expansion to 12 teams, the folding of the Longhorn Network and other third-tier TV properties into a Big 12 network and a conference football championship game.
His comments came in an interview with Tulsa World sports columnist John E. Hoover.
Boren on Wednesday released a statement to the Oklahoma Daily student newspaper:
“The Big 12 is disadvantaged when compared to the other conferences in three ways. We do not have at least 12 members, we do not have a conference network and we do not have a championship game. I think that all three of these disadvantages need to be addressed at the same time. Addressing only one without addressing all three will not be adequate to improve the strength of the conference.”
The NCAA Division I council on Wednesday approved a measure that would allow the Big 12 to play a conference title game in football with only 10 members.
Playing a round-robin schedule is part of the new rule. This season, Oklahoma would have had to play Oklahoma State in a conference title game the week after OU had beaten the Cowboys. Last year, in the scenario, TCU and Baylor would have played weeks after Baylor’s victory at home.

OU isn't happening without Ok State. In other words it isn't happening at all.
Virginia and Virginia Tech are in a similar situation.

By going to pods, you could play round robin in your pod, but not within a division.
The WAC did the pod set-up back in the 90s. You pair up different pods each year and call them "divisions". It's a loophole in the rule.

If money talks then you just further proved my point as Clemson, GA Tech and FSU add no new markets.

OU isn't getting texas to drop its Longhorn TV.

They know that. This is all just posturing so that they can have an excuse to leave.

All the SEC members that play these teams annually have agreements to block their moves to the SEC.
Only if you have the block of votes to prevent it. I think the expansion of the conference footprint has a lot to keep that from happening though. But if the majority of other teams in the SEC want them in the conference, there is nothing Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Texas A&M can do to stop it.

You have to have a 2/3rd majority for accepting new members. If those five schools vote as a block, then no school can be accepted over their objections.

Bama and UT are also part of that block to ensure the third saturday in october or at least they were.
Not to mention unless a school brings a new state they dont make sense financially and will likely cost each school money from a revenue perspective, but by all means continue bickering as though Clemson, FSU/Miami or Georgia Tech will ever even be entetained as possibilities.

Your revenue model, it's antiquated.

Actually it's 3/4. From 2013-14 SEC bylaws:
*3.1.2 Granting of Membership. Membership may be granted by invitation of the Conference at a meeting of the Chief
Executive Officers. A vote of at least three-fourths of the members is required to extend an invitation for membership.
[Revised 5/30/91] [Clarified/Conformed 6/1/11]
So 4 teams can block it.

What? No it isn't.

This. In a pod system, the divisions just change every year. The SEC doesn't want to go to a pod system because the transient nature of the division composition is a real drawback, but it is technically feasible.

The OU President Boren is pissed. Just last night he made his demands clear in interview. Go to 12 teams, convert LHN into b12 network, and have b12 championship game. He said all 3 must happen right away, and then hinted that OU will be gone otherwise.
He can throw tantrums all he wants, but he has no options even if he wants to leave. OU will go to the Pac-12 when Texas decides that it's ready to give up the LHN, and take OU and a couple of other Big XII schools with them. So, OU's only pathway out of the BDF is totally contingent on what the folks in Austin (and Bristol) decide to do regarding the LHN.
Four Big XII teams going to the Pac-12 would be a non-event for the SEC. If anything, it would strangle TCU and Baylor, and make Texas recruiting even more wide open for plundering.
The only SEC expansion that is even remotely likely would be an expansion into Virginia and North Carolina, but that's only likely to happen if the ACC disintegrates, something the Big Ten is actively working on, but which is probably out of their grasp (can't see UNC or UVA ever leaving the ACC, and as long as they stay, the ACC will soldier on).

So it's easier to override a presidential veto than it is to add a team to the SEC.

Step 1: Get all of the Big 12 minus texas to agree to work together for the greater good of the conference.
Step 2: Once you have secured the favor of the conference, approach Texas and give them an ultimatum. Drop the Longhorn Network for the good of the conference or you will not be a part of the conference's future expansion.
Step 3(may occur before and after step 2): Establish rumors that Univ of Houston and several other schools are in talks to join the Big 12 to place pressure on Texas.

The Longhorn Network is currently the Longhorn Elephant in the room, as the Big 12 wouldn't be able to start a conference-wide network as long as Texas has its own TV entity. But Texas reportedly makes near $15 million a year from ESPN, and it seems unlikely it would be interested in taking a major paycut for the good of the conference.
Would other Big 12 institutions be willing to guarantee Texas an increased revenue share to make up for the loss? And would ESPN, in an era of cable cord cutting and industry uncertainty, be even interested in launching another conference network?

Not so, as long as they agree to play them annually, Oklahoma will now make the move.
Think:
Florida-FSU
USC-Clemson
Georgia-GT
UK - Louisville
NEED:
TAMU - Texas
Oklahoma - OSU

That would be great for SECN. Could go back to being poor again.
