Should the SEC reconsider bowl money payouts?

Right now the money is spilt evenly 15 ways (14 teams and HQ) with some teams getting to keep a small percentage of the money they bring in from their bowl game.
Ole Miss will retain $1.475 million. Alabama and Mississippi State will retain $2 million each.
The SEC is bringing in $87.5M this bowl year, take out the money those 3 schools get to keep and spilt 15 ways each school will receive $5.46M
So is it fair teams like Vandy and Kentucky who bring nothing in get the same money as Alabama and Miss State?
Teams such as Alabama, LSU, Florida, and Auburn made multiple BCS bowl games and brought in big money. Yet have gotten the same payout amounts as teams who have never played in these games.
Is it time to look at how we distribute bowl payouts and let the schools that are bringing in more money keep more of it?

Kentucky brings a lot to the table with Basketball from a TV and NCAA Tournament perspective.

If they didn't do it this way, there's no way they could get schools to agree to the new system with no bowl pecking order and conferences setting games based on matchups.
At that point, it would be the conferences deciding which of their member schools would be getting more bowl money. That would be a mess.

I think all other revenue sharing should stay the same, but bowl payouts should benefit the teams making the bigger bowls.

I read somewhere that bowl payouts were basically a 16 way split - 14 teams, plus SEC, and the team in the bowl gets an additional share of that bowl. Can remember where that comes from, but it sounds fair to me wit hthe teams being rewarded for performance while still sharing the revenues evenly thoughout the conference.

You think Kentucky on the basketball end and Vandy on the baseball end wasn't a big part of the allure for the conference being able to float a year round SEC network?
So unless you want to give up that money during basketball and baseball season, uh no. Take that football only shite elsewhere.

Horrible, elitist, Bama-will-always-be-on-top thinking.
Being in the SEC has its benefits. This is one of them.

Didn't Texas try something like this with the Big12?

America may be capitalist, but college football is socialist.

While I agree that Bama is the cash cow that supports these jackwagons, look no further than the Bevo 12 and see how inequitable splits affect a conference.

You sound like tu. Try to squeeze out every dime you can, but when you can't then its all about conference.

Yeah I don't think it is a good idea. ALL TEAMS have down years. Saying you get nothing is the wrong message. Why fix something that isn't broke?

Would UAB still have a football team if Bama kept all of their bowl money??
