Do you think Saban left LSU for Alabama?
They do. It's quite sad.
We don't believe this. It was LSU fans that attacked Alabama when Saban left the Miami Dolphins. LSU fans.....not Alabama fan..are the ones that need to be reminded he left Miami for Alabama and not LSU for Alabama. You guys started all the Saban/Miles angst and comparisons when you directed your anger at us instead of Miami Dolphins fans.

It is funny to me that you and others couldn't follow the trail of posts that connected the hero worship between the two schools followed by Intrepid Poster Monticello posting the other schools with idols of their coaches, one of which was PSU, and determine that the comparison was about the hero-worship at the compared schools. Then again, this is the SECr so expectations should probably be checked at the door to begin with.
Let's try a syllogism:
Major premise: All universities that engage in unhealthy hero worship build statutes to living coaches.
Minor premise: Bama built a statue to honor a living coach
QED: Bama engages in unhealthy hero worship
Do the same exercise with Penn State. Draw your own conclusion.
You forgot the Child Molestation scandal......

Why do Bama fans have to try to pretend they were bigger or a more important 5 years than they actually were? Let it go guys.
I would say those five years were pretty big. LSU was coming off 8 losing seasons in the 1990s. He had LSU in the national title in year four.
Now, as for the threads, most of them are in response to the constant "Nick Saban is going to {insert job here}" jabs. Which came first, I don't know. I wasn't here before the SEC Rant didn't exist. However, I do know that many Alabama boards were flooded with LSU fans after Saban was hired at UA. So, I'm sure the LSU fans weren't completely innocent in the jabs, going back and forth, when Alabama fans started to join in mass in 2007.

So the narrative along with a syllogism did nothing for you? I give up then. You can't see it, I have nothing else for you.

Alabama has a problem as a university culture of having to worship its coach. Saban has to be larger than life to justify the worship. He must have made LSU and MSU and Miami and everywhere to justify the gross amount of adulation and blind loyalty they heap on him. The fans of Shaud Williams nation need him to be a folk hero, otherwise he's Mike Dubose. Would you want to worship Mike Dubose?
are you even talking about??
Alabama doesn't have "a problem as a university culture of having to worship its coach". Some of the fans probably do but so do Green Bay Packers fans who worship players and coaches for that matter. Some New Orleans Saints fans think Drew Brees should've been cannonized (sp?) by the Catholic Church the year he won the Super Bowl. Talk about a freakish lack of perspective. The improper perspective of some Alabama fans isn't unique at all. It certainly isn't a "university image problem". Alabama's academic reputation as a school has never been better than it is now. Consistently rated among the Top 50 public universities in the country and routinely the 4th or 5th best SEC school academically behind Vandy, Florida, and UGA right there with Auburn.

Which isn't what I said at all. Your WTF is likely because you did not get the point. I suggest you take the term "university image problem" and read it as "culture of having to worship its coach" in order to get the meaning. Again, Saban has to be the best who ever lived so that the praise that is unconditionally lavished upon him is justified. Where you got academics from is a feat of mental gymnastics the envy of all the world.

It did......how about explaining how some LSU fans went from wanting to chase Miles out of town to worshiping him?

Bama fans say that we whine...
...yet they come on here and whine about us whining...

So if I hear a redneck lsu fan on finebaum I should assume he's speaking on behalf of the LSU fanbase?

If we are being honest about it and not flaming jackasses intentionally misrepresenting what has been said, I can do that for you.
I think the most honest answer I can give you is another comparison. Look at Rudy Giuliani. More specifically look at his perception before and after 9/11. People rallied around him. I think you see the same phenomenon with Miles. When he is winning and taking unjustified criticism and Tyrone Prothro nation is telling the world Saban is the only good coach in the world, I think the fans of all teams rally around their guy, just as people who generally disliked Giuliani did. Hell, look at the threads about how Chizik is the best with the least amount of talent or how Pig fans think BP is Lombardi-Belichick-Parcells. That would be my honest opinion about it. LSU fans rally around him against the team we are playing (when he's winning )
ETA: Winning cures just about everything.
ETA2: Agree with below, there isn't a Miles worship. We do like our guy, though.

quote:Again you're just wrong about this. LSU fans were not angry at either fan base. Why be angry with the Dolphin fans? Hell, most fans, all the rational ones(ib4"all 2?"), had no problem with Nick moving on to the pros. It's a natural progression for many coaches. Any anger directed at Bama fans was due to your irrational hate of Miles. Hell, you guys should have loved him with all the mistakes and what not and the predictions of running the program into the ground. In other words, you're seriously mistaken on the situation.

quote:Several problems with this. First, LSU fans do not worship Miles. Second, it's not that they went from one to the other. The ones that wanted him out are just silent right now. They are lying in wait for Miles to screw up again. Third, that's not what this thread is about.

if you had a finebaum type program, based in l.a., that had aired for 10 plus years you most certainly would have heard "the same thing over and over...."
and, if lsu had a true rival, especially one they had shared a state with for a hundred or so years, you might hear a lot more craziness.
besides tulane & la tech, the only rival for louisiana football fans' attention is the saints....

As usual it's all about stroking their ego's. The only reason you're program is where is at is because of CNS and we got him. What's left out of this thinking is 1) They got him by default because he had to give the NFL a shot and there was no bridge back and 2)What CLM has done with the program since he took over.

Serious question. Nobody denies we were in a bad place when he was hired. Nobody disputes that he did a wonderful job for the 5 years he was here. Why do Bama fans have to try to pretend they were bigger or a more important 5 years than they actually were? Let it go guys.
You are so right. Just check out Saban's website. Tons of LSU hype - actually more than Bama stuff.
