The house I am in now had an established tree. It made wonderful fruit I lost it in a bad freeze(2021 I think). I planted a new one and it's been a struggle. Main leader got killed in another freeze, and now it's an odd looking shrub with a couple very long flimsy branches. It flowered like mad this Spring, but only 6 fruits were made, all on very low branches above the graft. Not sure what to do, but will be looking into how to prune this oddball.
Pretty good. The sooner Freshwater is gone from LSU, the better.
Pretty sure I watched departure happen this morning. Before sunrise I had the normal rush to all 5 of my feeders. By 7, there were 2 birds. Never seen that happen before.

I leave one or two up into October after the Ruby Throats are gone just in case a Rufous comes by. Every year I have had one has been after the departure of the Ruby Throats, except one.

The fact that they are a misfolded protein rather than a living organism makes this discussion very different. I don't know about 1,000, but it's apparently a very long time. I am guessing we would all die before a current prion became inactive or whatever the proper word it for them.
