Suddenly SEC homers say bowl games are meaningless

Half our conference sucked this year and the “but they don’t play anybody” narrative seems as southern backwoods as ever. Indiana is going to bully Bama on Thursday and UGA is the SEC’s only shot.

I said that gauging conference strength by meaningless bowl.games is a retarded exercise
And all of the bowls outside of the playoff(NY6) bowls are meaningless.

Don’t care what you said and discount any bubba who still uses the word retarded.
What I said was correct. The narrative here changed when the SEC lost its dominance over the last few years.

The non playoff bowl games are completely meaningless. We as fans need to all just agree to throw them out when debating and discussing which teams/conferences are better. They dont tell us anything about who these teams were in the regular season.

Most Bowls arent meaningless. To me, the only ones where they seem pointless are the ones with coaching changes or where you can tell the teams didnt want to be there due to pre-season expectations (i.e. PSU vs Clemson).
Tomorrow Vandy plays Iowa and I believe the only opt out for the game is Vandy's TE, despite both teams having a bunch of NFL prospects. The North Texas starters also played their bowl game despite entering the portal with millions on the line (they have several guys who got re-rated as high 4*s).
I still like the bowls, Bert vs Beamer last year was an all time classic

The issue here is that Tennessee fans literally made a book about winning a non playoff bowl just a couple of years ago (yes this is real).

There is a difference between the Orange Bowl and the Music City bowl.

The point of playing a football game is to win. Treating games as unimportant is loser mentality

Hate to disagree with one of my SEC brethren...but...Bama will win by 24

I think the majority of this sub would agree that bowl games are meaningless and the CFP is all the matters. I also think that the majority of this sub would be fine with their team declining a bowl game because a crap ton of starters and rotational players would opt out for the draft or the portal.

Not meaningless but not really a good gauge of true strength of teams in this opt out era. Of course I’m referring to the non-playoff bowl games

Only play-off games actually mean anything in the big scope. Any bowl games outside playoffs is just teams in transition for next year.

No college football game is meaningless. Bowl games are important. If you are a college football player, then the bowl games are a reward. It gives you one more opportunity to play with your teammates. It gives your team a chance for one more victory.
And since NIL is a part of the scheme today, make the cash payable as a bonus at the conclusion of the season (including a bowl game). Period. Barring injury, all players must play or be available to play in every game.

I agree and would add that you don't need bowl games to tell that the SEC sucks again this season. It was plenty apparent during the regular season.

With opt outs and pay for play now officially happening especially with bowl games why should I invest as a fan with support when the players don’t show up and could care less?
Bowl games used to mean something. Now they don’t.
