Let's be honest .. more marriages fail than succeed now. This isn't a Southern Baptist preacher position, it's a football coach. So why does an affair off the field mean a coach gets fired? Reprimanded, yes...but fired? Isn't that a bit extreme?

Edit: didn't realize all the facts in the story. She actually worked for him and a bunch of crazy shite.

The affair is just the tip of the iceberg.

I have seen reports that he was arrested, too. Don't know if it's true, but if it is then there's something else going on.

With a university employee who is his subordinate you mean?

Who he got a 100% raise after starting their affair?

Who he apparently broke into her house and threatened to kill if she didnt have an abortion?

Yeah man, its pretty baffling why they went this direction.

He was also arrested as a suspectfor assault charges. There is much more going on here than the affair.

Alabama fired one of its winningest coaches in their basketball history for the same thing, and it was consensual.

After an inappropriate relationship with a significantly younger staffer (major power imbalance), Moore allegedly broke into the staffer's home, threatened her and himself with a knife, and was only stopped when his wife tracked his phone to a church, where police intervened.

He knew when he was hired that it was against the schools policy to have relationships with fellow staffers.

That's why.

Co-workers that diddle around on their spouses at the local plant don't mean shite unless they're doing it on the company dime.

They didnt fire him for an affair

They fired him for having a sexual relationship with a staffer. And then giving her a big raise using taxpayer money.

That was the primary reason. But secondary to that he broke into her apartment and threatened her. Which he was arrested for. And he was also charged with sexual assault and sodomy. (Allegedly). And rumors are of a male victim as well.

But all they needed was the facts surrounding the first allegations

Because it wasn't "off the field." It was a staff member and a subordinate. No bueno.

Because she can sue the University for hostile work environment, sexual harassment, and rain financial and reputational hell down on the entire program.

If it is a staffer or subordinate in the athletic dept or a student, it is problematic given the power and authority situation.

Some random person, none would care outside of a religious oriented school or morality clause that highlighted affairs as a no-no.

Yep, and they also fired a football coach for going to a strip club.

It's almost like context matters, which seems above the OP's head on this one.

It's not "coach was fired for having an affair." It's state employee fired for having an affair with a subordinate and, in the course of said affair, gave said subordinate massive raises in compensation, far beyond what someone of her position and tenure typically makes. Further, said state employee is the highest paid and most recognizable figure in the state. Plenty of coaches have affairs. Some coaches get divorced for having affairs. Most coaches who have affairs don't get fired for having affairs. It's not complicated at all to understand why Moore was fired.

bamma didn't fire him for the affair with the woman, they fired him for beating the schitt out of her for threatening to reveal said affair.
