Normally, I could't care less what Stephen Smith has to say, but this is pure gold and spot on

For all the complaining about Notre Dame and to an extent the other schools that opted out of playing a bowl game, by doing so it sent a message to whoever makes the decisions that steer the game and maybe the actions of these schools are just another step in the evolution of the game, the game that has changed and not in ways we like.

Notre Dame's action is a shot at forcing the decision makers to clean up the mess they have made and understand it wasn't Notre Dame or any other single school that caused college football to veer off course.

The Notre Dame program, players and fans want the game to go on as much as anyone but I for one agree with them standing up and saying, "We're mad as hell and we're not taking it anymore!"

Correct but that because we expanded the playoffs and they’re whining to expand it even more. At most, it should be a 6-8 team playoff.

They already jumped to 12 so there’s no going back now. I don’t want it to expand but it will again down the road. The issue isn’t necessarily Notre Dame quitting. Well it is and it isn’t. That was dumb for them to do publicity wise and now their detractors are killing them on social media. And I get it. But the bigger problem is the committee allowing G5 auto bids. That’s what has damaged the sport the most

Don't care what it's about or if I agree with it, I hate his schtick.

Funny to me the people that think One team feeling left out is an issue..... Was always going to be someone left out. Not really an issue out side of the whiny beotch ND AD.

Notre Dame made their own bed.

They played, at best, a three game schedule and went 1-2. They played 4 teams ranked below #100.

Awarding Notre Dame is awarding a team for looking good against the equivalent of a G5 schedule.

And the "good loss" argument only holds water if you're comparing them to teams with similar records and a similar number of "good wins". If Indiana had lost to Oregon and Ohio State then I doubt they even make the playoffs with their schedule.

It's exhausting when everyone wants to look at the 10-2 teams and focus on the "2" while no one seems to give a rats arse about the teams that make up the "10".

Beat someone with a pulse, and then we'll compare losses. If you can't compare the wins before the losses then you don't have an argument.

And as they are finding out no one cares. ND as an independent cannot make the goal post move. They just saw the conference they thought they could take advantage of in the ACC threw them under the bus to campaign for Miami over them.

ND could take their ball to play somewhere else and not one P4 conference or their members could care. It is all about money and ND takes a piece of that from the P4 if they are in the playoffs.

I disagree. The intent really was to let one G5 group in the, Cinderella story, that gets in every year and that’s good for the sport even if they get skull drug.

But the ACC was shite and they never contemplated this happening. But if you’re at a 6 or 8 playoff, none of this is really relevant.

Smith is an absolute clown show

As is the trash network he works for

If the committee would have done the right thing and dropped hapless Alabama out of the playoff, you don't think their fans would've have been upset?

The gimpy, grumpy gumps and their brethren would've raised more of a ruckus than they did back in the 1860's

I agree. Clemson did the same for years. Played maybe one hard game and got in the championship game

ND just needs to join the ACC.

They can win that conference and get a spot.

They played 6 ACC teams this year anyway. To get to 9 they could drop BSU, Purdue and A&M. Add 3 more ACC opponents. They have an even EASIER schedule and still get a playoff spot (probably with a 12-1 record).

They probably get in with that scenario if they lost the ACCCG at 11-2. No loss of historical rivals (Stanford is a permanent ACC opponent, USC is a permanent OOC opponent). Play Navy OOC every year and have one game to play teams in other places.

The same number.

A&M went 11-1 though, not 10-2. If ND went 11-1, they'd be in.
