Follow along….

1. Preseason pundits historically rank certain teams way higher than merited.

2. It takes several weeks for reality to set in and those teams to drop down the polls - or out entirely.

3 Meanwhile, because of their fraudulent rankings they get the best TV times.

4. Hence, they are “most watched.”

*There are exceptions, of course, but anyone with a functioning brain sees the stupidity.

this sounds like something a fan of a “Least Watched Team” would say

Man, we are not anywhere in the rankings, and this still sounds like...

The TV people pick the games they think will get the most viewers for those time slots.

Preseason rankings are heavily based on the previous season.

Thus, if you want to be viewed more, then do better.

Look at this season’s preseason rankings and say that again with a straight face.

I’m no expert on why viewers watch some teams or games on TV more than others, but my intuition tells me preseason rankings aren’t as impactful as other reasons, like maybe geographic locations, population and size of fanbase.

But then, I have never been mistaken for a brain surgeon or a nuclear physicist. Thats for sure.

So your argument is that if Mizzou would have been ranked higher, they would have had 125k viewers instead of 102k?

Oh, I'm sure that has some small effect, but if you're talking about a certain team (that we all know you're talking about), then I'd say it's a bit like why people watch the New York Yankees: as many people watch hoping to see them get their arse kicked as watch hoping to see them win. If you look at the hourly ratings for games where a big dog is about to get upset, they go up as the game goes along as people tune in for the train wreck, even if (sometimes, especially if) the game is not competitive.

No, some teams just draw eyeballs. Generally it's the teams that have done the most over the history of the sport. Bluebloods. That's who people want to watch.

or...networks put games in the time slots they believe, based on a lot of research, will draw the most eyeballs. Missouri/Vandy is a top 15 matchup and has been chosen for college gameday. On paper, you could argue there is only one game "bigger " (Ole Miss/Oklahoma). But that Ole Miss game is on at 11 AM and the Misssouri/Vandy game at 2:30 PM. Do you ever stop to wonder why that is? Do you think maybe A&M/LSU was chosen for priemtime because more people will watch even though it's not the better matchup?

I'll admit there's some truth to your post because, yes, primetime games typically get better ratings. However, primetime games are chosen based on prospective ratings. Missouri/Vandy just isn't a game that as many people nation-wide will watch compared to other matchups that may include teams who aren't as good. TV slots aren't solely based on where teams are ranked and whether those rankings are "fraudulent." That's why UGA/Auburn was primetime on ABC and not Alabama/Missouri. Networks are trying to maximize eyeballs at the different time slots.

Also, your team's highest-rated game of the year was an 11 AM kick.

I forgot to mention tradition and history, one of the most important reasons. Thanks for mentioning that.

I looked, what's your problem?

Texas and South Carolina were over-ranked to start the season, but that was based on the previous year results. Penn St also.

Are you crying about Missouri because you went from 22 to UR?

Tell me, what rank do you think you would have needed to get a prime time slot for your following opponents:

Central Arkansas
Kansas
Lousiana(not LSU)
USC(you were ranked 23 here, same as last year)
UMass

Then you played Alabama @ #14.

So feel free to show me where Missouri is getting screwed and how you'd have much better numbers than the most watched teams if you had only been ranked more.

The top seven ranked teams in this year’s preseason AP poll all made the playoffs last season. Eight of the top eleven preseason ranked teams were playoff teams last season. All eleven P4 playoff teams from last season were ranked in the preseason top 25 this season.
