Curious what everybody’s thoughts are. Word is he’s playing Saturday. Do you play Mateer to win your rivalry game or hold him out to prioritize the run to the playoffs? Obviously the committee will not hold the Texas game against OU missing Mateer, if they go on to win 9-11 games, but at the same time Texas can’t be allowed to win. I lean towards holding him out and preparing for the back half of the schedule.

Its not a nagging type of injury like a pulled hamstring. If he's healed, let him cook.

Let him heal...there are bigger fish to fry. If OU wins their remaining games after Texas, there is no way the committee can keep them out.

If he is the better option to win you play him. OK still needs to go 9-3 to get in if they don't win the SEC. A hard schedule coming up.

Doesn’t matter.

Caldwell gonna light OU up like a Christmas tree.

I would prefer he play, and then let him have a well deserved rest for the game on November 22nd......

I think OU can beat Texas without Mateer. Just run the ball, play solid defense, and have the back-up QB hit the short and medium high-percentage throws.

Per the committee guidelines they look at head to head results. If OU finishes with the same record as Texas and they have 1 spot left in the playoffs, Texas would get the nod over OU. So yes, they can hold that loss against OU.

I’m taking this decision very seriously. I’ll let you know after I give Coach Venables my final decision.

Yes. Only if he can throw the ball effectively. But depends on how good OU is in the trenches. Texas OLine was dominated last game.

Florida showed that a dominant DLine and a competent ground game gets the job done.

The QB just needs to make about 20 throws.

What if he plays and OU still loses?

If your D is that great it shouldnt matter. Who cares if you beat Texas if you miss the playoffs, I would say the same thing if Texas was in the same spot.

Before last week I would have said our D will embarrass Hawkins just like last year but after the Fl game no idea. With Mateer at full strength think OU is favored by 5ish, without Texas is favored by 3-4 but that line will move close to a pick em by game time.

If Arch were to get hurt and Caldwell did that would be one crazy media circus on the Qb controversy.

If we bench Arch its so easy to negatively recruit against and if we keep him at least you can tell guys "we stick by you when your time is ready"

My son is really good friends with someone currently at OU, that that kid is good friends with someone that lives with Mateer. Yes, Ferris Bueller type connection, but last week, I was told that he is 100% playing. I expect him to play.

The dilemma of which QB to play affects both teams this year.

I got a laugh from a Paul Finebaum quote about how a single play by Caldwell improved the Texas offense and when Arch returned to the game was unable to engineer a scoring drive.

Should have left the other kid in there until his hand goes cold.

You cannot fix TX line issues at this point in the season. You are what you are.
They can; however, make adjustments with Arch....quick release, slants, rollout. No deep balls...your line cannot hold blocks.
