When, in your opinion, was the last time that CFB truly felt like CFB?

Lots of talk over these last few years about the changing landscape and the sport becoming unrecognizable. What was the last year that you think college football was what you remember and wanted it to be?

2022.

A&M's class of purchased players were freshman and not really changing the landscape yet. NIL was around but it was almost exclusively for the established players.

Healthy OSU walks it off but unhealthy OSU almost did it anyway

Thsi feels right. My deafult was 2019 pre-covid, but honestly 2021 and 2022 still felt like the "normal" CFB we were all used to.

It's funny that every time we beat a team that has injuries that is the only reason, but when we are decimated by injury nobody makes a peep. Perhaps if our stud, All American, #1 overall HS player and 1st round NFL draft pick OLB nolan smith had played against OSU stroud wouldn't have had a career day running all over the field? Stuff like that gets swept aside though.

The abandonment of New Year's Day as the big payoff was a gradual thing with no particular moment when New Year's Day became irrelevant but it was the end of the CFB that was.

Much like when NASCAR screwed up that by trouncing on tradition... CFB screwed it up when they went to a playoff that exceeds logic. The NIL brought the ones who played by the rules even with those who didn't but now it's totally out of control and will bring lawsuits at every effort to bring sensibility to it.

Nolan Smith hell of a player and incredible stud.

Jaxon Smith Njigba - All American first rounder
Marvin Harrison Jr - All American first rounder
Tre Henderson - Frosh All American second rounder
Cade Stover - Mackey Finalist fourth rounder

That isn't even all the offensive skill positions guys who were out. UGA had a very good player at TE also go out in the game (Washington), but if you don't think Njigba destroys UGA's secondary with what Harrison did without him then I don't even know what to say.

These are not the same

I'd say pre-COVID, but if I REALLY wanted to bring back that college football feel it would be back during the Jefferson Pilot days of college football. Nothing in the south said college football like the Jefferson Pilot 11 am game on Saturday mornings!

2019. Not just because it was a historical year for LSU, but that was a fun season all around, and it was before COVID and NIL and the portal BS.

this was the final game of CFB in its natural form -

everything else since has been a perversion or mockery -

2009. Auburn winning a national title killed the sport.

Lmao. I forgot every team that won a championship never played hurt.

Bama lost all American Jaylen Waddle and all American Landon Dickerson in 2020 and still boatraced everyone including OSU by 30 points in the championship.

It’s called having elite depth. It’s beautifully ironic a clueless fan of Ohio State can’t grasp their 3rd string QB led them to a national title bc of that exact concept in 2014 lmao. Having elite depth is a part of the game dipshit

Pre-SEC Network and conference expansion.

12 team conferences were perfect for an 8-game schedule.

Not every game was on TV, you either had to go or listen to the radio call.

You didn’t have to relearn a new roster every season, and you got to watch players develop at your school year-over-year

ETA: Basically, college football died with Jefferson Pilot and tDaves

The introduction of the targeting penalty has completely fricked up CFB. It's such a crock of shite to eject a player or even give a 15 yard penalty on an accidental helmet to helmet hit. When two players are running, shifting, juking, jiving, ducking, etc. sometimes a helmet to helmet hit is unavoidable.

I hate it.
