Question about the DP that didn't happen

I guess this is more for Arky posters
Has Aloy come out and said what he was thinking on that ground ball? Did he just forget about the situation? Did he have a brain fart? Did he not think he had enough time to turn the DP? I'm sure he has been asked about it but i haven't seen a response about it.

If he had any chance at all, the DP is the smart play.
Even if you don’t get the DP, tying run is still on 1B. Lead runner is irrelevant.

Bro we get that but that is not my question.

Not that I know of and I don’t care. Time for everyone to move on and leave him alone, he, like Chuck, had a great year and the team wouldn’t have been there without them.

I sure natural instincts kicked in at that moment and saw he could get the lead runner. He looked like he knew what he should have done immediately after. He felt awful about it since he didn’t show for the press conference and didn’t feel like answering questions and was probably breaking down in the locker room.
Even MLB players will make plays at times that will scratch your head. Nobody’s perfect.

Dude had a brain fart when Curiel flashed across his face going to third. That's all it was

Just like errors can happen, lie they did late in the game.
The game is fast. He regretted it. There was still hope and “that’s baseball happened.”

The way Aloe botched that fielder's choice is a case study in letting risk and fear defeat you. Not picking on him, he's a great kid and a great player on a great team, - just 3 seconds of his life. He froze. We've all been there. Choosing to mitigate risk rather than take the necessary risk required for victory. The mind screams to play it safe sometimes. And it usually helps us. This time it ended his season.

Haven’t heard or seen anything directly from Aloy. He did skip the post game press conference even though his name tag was out, I’m sure these would’ve been the first questions asked had he made an appearance.

He hasn’t and shouldn’t. It’s over for him
But it’s clear he was trying too hard in a pressure situation. Same as the other mistakes in the 9th. This is a hallmark of DVH’s program. See foul ball vs Oregon St.
Trying hard is good, but too hard means the game doesn’t come naturally. The Arkansas program could use a sports psychologist to get rid of the problem.

I think he just shart the bed. There's no thought behind what he did and he can offer no excuse for for it.
I'm a Cardinal fan, and I've heard they're talking about drafting him. I pray they don't.

I don’t want to go back and watch the play. But when I happened live I thought it was the right move. Ball hit to his right towards the hole, get the for sure out. They weren’t turning 2 on that play IMO.
Plus I’ve seen that play plenty where they don’t get the out at second either. Had that happened people would be saying he should have got the lead runner.
Pitching to Jones after his HR with a base open, especially with a lefty/righty matchup is the only thing that happened that inning that should’ve in question.

Sounds like you need to go back and watch the play. That’s double play ball 10/10 times.

I think it’s funny that fans of other schools are more interested in this than most of the Arkansas fans. It is what it is. It happened, now it’s over. Him coming out and speaking on it isn’t going to change anything. If anything, it’ll just give all the couch coaches and social media trolls more ammo to ridicule and talk about how much better they would’ve done. It was just a herp derp inning all the way round. I will say, even with that mistake, I wish he was coming back next season.

He takes one step in, and it's an easy DP.

He didn’t skip it so much as DVH didn’t want to subject him to the media scrutiny. Had he marched him out there that would’ve been the entire focus of the PC. No need to subject him to that, especially immediately after. He really doesn’t owe anybody an explanation, outside of the team, especially the media. Right call IMO.

quote:Go back and rewatch. The ball was hit to his right, but he made a great athletic move to get to his right and re-center himself by the time he fielded the ball. His momentum was in no way continuing to pull him to the right.

As a right-handed thrower, he actually had to show some footwork to then throw it to 3rd base. It would have been much more natural for him to go to 2nd. That's what's so baffling.
He seems like a great kid so I'm not picking on him. I wonder if he thought there were either 0 or 2 outs instead.

You cannot be serious. The only way they don’t make the play at 2nd is a gross error. You really want to say that exchange is riskier than with a 3B that fields a putout maybe once every 10 games?
As for the DP, you can't see the batter in this because he wasn’t even to the runner’s lane when the throw was made.

Former LSU National Champion SS, and MLB SS, Ryan Theriot disagrees with you. I think he knows a helluva lot more about playing SS at this level than you do.

Not sure what he was thinking but in about 2 months he’ll have more cash than everyone who has posted in this thread combined.
