For those of you that don't know what happened or know about the rule, the SEC has a travel curfew that no inning can start after 4:30 pm on Sunday. Kentucky was pitching with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th inning at 4:28 and milked the clock until 4:30. Then Kentucky went and had a mound visit to make sure the inning lasted until after 4:30. All but ending the game and eliminating the 9th inning for Texas A&M to attempt a comeback. Chaos and yelling ensued.
On one hand, I think this is a smart move, guaranteeing your team a conference win by taking advantage of the rules that are in place. On the other hand, it's kind of a bush league cheap move.
I don't think I'd have a problem with Jay doing this if necessary, but boy would I be pissed if some team did this to us.

That's some 10 year old travel ball level shite there.

By the score, it looks like they did TAMU a favor.

Sec should not allow this.

it’s definitely bush league
but that’s Mingione. He’s a “win any way you can except being more talented” kind of guy

Dumb rule by the SEC, but the Aggie coach acted like a douche. The players like him I guess.

doesn't change the fact that Aggies are a shell of the team they were last year

Would I intentionally stall? No. But I’m not going to be in a hurry either.
It’s not Kentucky’s job to ensure A&M has time for a comeback.

why the hell was the game started at 2pm then?
Posted on 3/31/25 at 12:48 pm to bradygolf98
isn’t there usually a bit of time between inning anyway? it seems like this just shut the door completely but I doubt they would have started the 9th before 4:30 if they had 1 out to go at 4:28

Commerical flights don't wait. That is why the rule is in place.
Mingione is a douche. That is all I have to add to the conversation.

Thread from angry Kentucky fans when our softball coach did this to them.

Karma is a bitch...
I remember in the CWS, the A&M batters would walk around outside of the batter's box between every pitch, making the pitchers wait on them. I guess they thought delaying the game was okay then.
Saw something similar "BUSH" by Mizzou ...
One of the Mizzou pitchers, while on the mound and in the middle of his "stretch", would hold the ball forever, at least 10+ seconds, until the batter changed his stance and let the bat rest on his shoulder from the upright position, at which point the pitcher immediately threw the ball.
That Chicken shite SOB knew he would never have to come to the plate and face some chin music.
If you don't have the balls to pitch, take up badminton.
frick those sorry shits.

It is bush league, but the win counts just the same. I think most coaches in the league would do the same thing, especially against a first year head coach who is likely gone soon.

Oh my this rule is a definite no-go. Eff this.
If time is a concern, declare a 7-inning game before first pitch. Otherwise play all 9.
The beauty of baseball is there is no clock to manipulate like basketball/football. As soon as you open the door for any coach to game the rules, they will do it.

Agree. One of the things that makes Baseball the best sport, is you have to play the whole game. There is no clock to milk or run out. You have to record all 27 outs. This is a dumb rule. That being said, start the game earlier if you know this rule is in place.

I still think it's Bush.

But, tend to agree overall it's not a great rule in its implementation given the modern landscape of college sports.
