Ole Miss beat #12 Arizona 2-1 (Elliot looks like he’s heading back to being a top Ace in the SEC)

Got ruled by #7 Texas with great Texas pitching10-0 (Texas got up 7 -0 in the third but we had some decent pitching come in after that with some stuff and hopefully our starting pitcher just had a bad day)

Run ruled #8 Clemson 15-5
Bats got hot and Clemson lefty pitcher was not

There’s no Paul Skenes on this team but there might be 7 Ty Floyd’s if that makes sense.

Hitting I’ll hold judgement until there are games versus real pitching staffs. I think Dickinson probably leads the team in BA and hits in the .350 range and Jared Jones leads the country in walks.

Not many conclusions to draw from playing Hofstra, but putting the play in play shouldnt be a problem.

Offense looked good, great weekend from Justin Lebron, with transfer Jason Torres contributing 8 RBI. I like the speed at the top of the order with Bryce
Fowler and Richie Bonomolo, Jr. A lot of new faces and 19 pitchers were used over the weekend. Good outing for Riley Quick on Saturday, returning from Tommy John surgery. Pitching will be key to having a good year.

For opening weekend, A&M was fine.

Starting pitching looked pretty good (Lamkin had a couple of cue balls fall for hits that made him run up his pitch count). For the first time in a while, I feel like I know who our weekend starters are going to be after week 1.

Relief pitching was OK from the guys we are counting on, but still have to see a lot more to know who is going to fill what roles. Freshcorn shows some potential as a closer, and Stewart didn't get to pitch this weekend due to a minor injury.

We looked OK at the plate. A long ways from hitting on all cylinders, but not bad. Galloway took the early lead for catcher, but Sorrell (RF) being out with a minor hamstring injury and making way for Kiel may give the staff something to think about, especially given Binderups defensive struggles at first--like his bat, but he won't play first if he doesn't improve quickly, and Schott has the DH position. Grahovac seems a little banged up, and might be a candidate for a little rest in order to get some of the new guys at bats.

Bad competition but first opening weekend sweep since 2020 so I’ll take it. 35-5 margin of victory over 3 games with 2 run rules, and none of the games were ever really in doubt.

Watched all the games live and made it thru some questionable weather for A&M baseball. Unless you were bombing 450 ft shots and 108 exit velos Friday, nothing was leaving Blue Bell. It was a small ball day, yet, A&M batters were attempting HR shots all night long that were high fly outs. A bit fearful if weather isn't right for HR derby, it is a massive weakness for this team right now. Hopefully they adapt and put more balls on the gound for horrible weather days like Friday.

Our true freshman, back-up to Sorrell, is insanely talented. TKII or Terrance Kiell II may somehow work himself into the starting line-up. Batted 0.500 w 3 RBIs, 2 walks, steal.

USC Transfer catcher, Galloway. Impressive too.

Jace? Dude is a beast. Period. Can he reach 50 HR this year? Doubtful but guy crushes them so easily.

Sat was beautiful. Balls flying over fences all day.

Sunday wind coming into Blue Bell but bats still strong.

Team is gonna hit 150 HR pretty easy this year.

Need to clean up some minor fielding issues and pitching was a bit inconsistent. Lots of strike-outs but also lots of hittable thrown balls that were not placed well.

Patton on Sunday was something to see. 8 KOs, 1 run on 4 hits. Great debut for the highly sought after transfer.

Overall....great opening weekend with lots of progress ahead but gonna be a very fun team to watch.

Gamecocks 72 AB by starters over the weekend - just 11 strikeouts - which is a significantly less rate/percent than at any point during the K-ingston occupation of 6+ seasons -

1 error in 88 chances over the weekend and the hot shot to 2B on Sunday could have easily been scored a hit - and likely should have -

Gamecock pitching 45 K 4 BB in 85 BF -

early signs - attention to detail matters again - with the Mainieri approach to winning ball games versus K-ingston -

We have some mojo on the team that I haven't seen since 2021.. maybe 2022..

We will likely feast on average to bad pitching, and likely struggle against good to elite pitching.

Spencer and Harrison looked really good as the Friday & Saturday starters. Toss Ace Whitehead in with those 2, and we might have a decent weekend rotation.

I'm not sold as Duplantier as our closer. Dude has good stuff, but he also gets in trouble because of his lack of control. It will cost us some games this year.

Transfer Riojas who closed for UTSA last year looked really good in middle relief. Reminds me a little bit of Huston Street.. demeanor, size, confidence, movement.. I'd like to see him tried as the closer.

Adrian Rodriguez is going to be a star.
The Good: 2 HR, 2 Doubles, 2 Singles, just a great looking swing
Unknown: Most of his plate appearances were from the left side, only a couple of at bats on the right side.
The Bad: He had a lot of K's this weekend. Chased too many balls outside of the strike zone. Perhaps trouble with the curve.

Max Belyeu will be in the conversation for SEC Player of the Year. He may not win it, but dude is a stud. Went 8-14 on the weekend, but even the outs were good at-bats. Had an OPS of 1.090 last year, and I look for that number to go up this year.

Jalin Flores is a little bit overrated imo. Good player, but something just seems off..

Gasparino is a tall drink of water.. looks a little bit funky up at the plate.. but he's pretty damn good.

Way too early predictions for Texas
14-17 wins in SEC Play
1 or 2 Seed in a Regional that pairs with A&M in the Super Regional

A&M

My biggest takeaways:

-Everyone did about as expected
-The defense wasn't great (as expected). I think it'll bite us long-term.
-Patton looked pretty damn good for a Sunday starter. It's only 1 game vs Elon, but very promising
-TK2 brought some serious confidence and fun to the park. Love his energy. Keeping him on the bench when we get healthy will be hard.

We played a team that hasn't been outdoors all winter and is picked last in the Missouri Valley. Zero point zero takeaways.

This might be the best LSU bullpen Jay Johnson has had since coming here. All of our pitchers were in the upper 90s with run and had great secondary pitches.

BaseVOLS backups would go .500 in SEC play. Deep & Talented is an understatement.

We won our three scrimmage games against Bradley University of the Blind and Deaf.

Our Friday night guy was shaky

Justin Lebron will be the biggest MLB star (non pitcher) that Alabama has had come through the program in 30-40 years, maybe ever.

Are we allowed to say that when it is against Purdue Fort Wayne?

It very well might be, but still.

Mid 90's against a yankee directional school is like fishing with tnt.
