Are you getting priced out of attending your schools sporting events?

I know I used to attend football, basketball, baseball and soccer events for years. It was affordable. I find that my desires to do that now are waning because of the investment that it takes. They reassigned my seats at Willie-B three times in the last 20 years. I am relegated to an upper deck at Colonial Life and I now do general admission at Founders Field. I am close to only doing the football side because concessions and other perks (parking being one) have priced me out. Just wondering if anyone else has had to modify what events they attend. I also know we are not at the top tier of the SEC price gouge.

No, but given the direction of NIL, they're getting priced out of me attending

Yes, I have gone less and less. Last year was the first time I didn't attend any sports other than minor league stuff. It's not because I can't afford it, but I'd rather put that money to other use like a family trip instead. If you don't drink, it's hard to justify blowing hundreds just to catch a game, as the product has changed.

I have season tickets to OU football and softball for over 20 years. Yes they have gone up a lot but it's still a great value. My OKC Thunder tickets is another story.

No. I can still attend.

However, I will not be giving to NIL collectives anytime soon.

Perfect description of my sentiments also.

Well stated.

Yeah, especially when it isn't just a single ticket or two tickets.

A family of four is expensive. Luckily I was able to take the kids to a basketball game over Christmas break and the tickets were reasonable. It was the first time they had attended any college game.

UGA vs. Austin Peay prices look doable (~$100 each) but I am hesitant to buy until I know it won't be a night game.

Not priced out, but I would much rather spend my money elsewhere. But they don’t care. We are witnessing the full monetization of CFB.

How much does the average fan spend on a season ticket? It is dwarfed by the corporations that own the boxes. To maximize profits, that is who they will continue to cater to.

How much does the average non-ticket holder spend in a year on their team? $100 bucks on gear? Probably less than the average gambler loses each game. That is who they will continue to cater and market to.

This is why they don’t care if the average fan goes away, they built the foundation, but now they are extracting as much money as they possibly can while trying to maintain the illusion this is still CFB “for the fans”.

It’s an entertaining game, I will still tune in for 1.5 hours of game and 2.5 hours of commercials like a good sheep. But I will never feel the passion I used to, which essentially makes CFB as I remember it dead, it’s just something on the tv if I have nothing better to do, and it’s won’t ever come back.

More and more money for an increasingly shitty product. The story of American culture.

Can I afford to attend at the current price point? Yes.

Am I going to choose to continue buying season tickets with the current rules and prices? Probably not.

I have enough friends with season tickets to football and basketball that I generally get to go to several games a season for free. Thats enough to satisfy me. Baseball tickets are totally affordable so I go to quite a few games on the weekends.

The part I don’t understand is the TV money is much more than ten years ago, merchandise sales are huge, they sell beer at an inflated price at games but still feel the need to gouge season ticket holders with funds plus higher prices. I refuse to pay K-fund. I can buy a ticket to most games. The ones I can’t are televised. You see games with empty seats because they have overpriced the tickets. Directional state U games should not be $80.

Buy a nice TV with the money you have saved and watch at home.

I stopped attending regularly when the Yes program was introduced. I try to make it up for a few games every year, but I have found myself caring less and less about college athletics over the last decade, mainly because of the mercenary status of college football and one-and-dones in college basketball. The transfer portal and NIL have pretty much sealed it for me. I love college baseball, but we live 2 hours away from Columbia and my wife works Saturdays, so that typically limits us to Sunday games. If we lived in Cola I'd pay for two season tickets in a heartbeat.

Has nothing to do with pricing but with the ruination of college sports by way of NIL and as of yesterday....instant transfer to another school without any consequences.

Fvck this shite.

It’s truly sickening how expensive everything is. They just want more money after more money. It will never be enough. And now that they’re paying the players you can forget it.

We had a tailgate spot where we have been tailgating for 20+ years. It is a small patch of grass across the street from the Grove. There was another group that had been there 30 years! They actually spread some the ashes of one of their group there!
It was a fantastic spot!
Last year Ole Miss kicked us out to rent that space for a “tailgating experience”.
Just like that, we lost the place where we made decades of memories, where we hoped our grandchildren would tailgate, where our friends knew how to find us.
It just means more…….money!

I’ll keep buying season tickets for now, but they won’t see any more donations. They won’t miss my meager donations, but at some point it’ll be too much and I’ll just stay home.

I think in general people are going to start to question spending so much to watch a game where realistically, the players no longer care about the schools thanks to NIL. I’ve been saying this for a while now, when you start paying the players it is no longer amateur, it’s no longer a commitment to an institution which is what made college sports so special.

Why would you pay so much money watching a product that plays like amateur although they get paid like professionals? It doesn’t make any sense. I could go on and on but college football had a very serious problem right now and it’s not the transfer portal. After people spend a few years throwing money at a product that has no commitment, no heart, for players that don’t really care anymore… at some point they are going to stop throwing that money.

I expect the crowds to get smaller and the game decline significantly over time.
