Best defense since 2017 supposedly? I haven’t verified numbers.

Allowed 14 PPG post Vanderbilt. Imagine if we had a competent offense to complement them.

The only coach on the entire staff that I saw make improvement. I did NOT like him or his defense. The last half of the year showed some real promise, though.

I loved the way we were playing on defense the last few games.

I hope that trend continues.

Imagine having....

- Will Anderson Jr
- Dallas Turner
- Brian Branch
- Henry To'o T'oo
- Kool-Aid McKinstry
- Jordan Battle
- Chris Braswell
- Terrion Arnold
- Malachi Moore
- DeMarco Hellams

...and not finish in the top 8.

For real though, Wommack did well in year 1, IMO. Heading into the season we had HUGE questions on DBs and thought our offense would have to carry the team. In fact, it was the opposite.

Was very excited about this guy preseason. It's not often you have someone leave a HC job willingly to step down and be a position coach.

First half of the season I was ready for him to leave like everyone else, but he really shut everyone up these last few weeks. Demolishing a hot (at the time) LSU offense was probably the high point for the D.

And not sure if anyone remembers the lack of takeaways in 2023, but holy shite they did turn that around in 2024.

Here's the numbers, but it felt like a lot more at least:

2023
12 INTS
9 Forced fumbles

2024
17 INT's
13 Forced fumbles

Our secondary lost starters left and right and got better over the course of the season. I think we all have PTSD of underclassmen, first-year starters in Saban's pattern match zone principles.

I'm pretty excited about the secondary in 2025 with Sabb returning to FS. Hubbard seems like a more natural strong safety with how he hits but the way he held up as a middle of the field safety is encouraging.

Imagine having a top 10 scoring offense and a top 10 scoring defense.

Did Saban ever do that?? (not being a dick I truly don't know, maybe 2016?).

DeBoer will next year.

Edit: am I correct in assuming that these point totals don't count pick 6s??

Edit II: regular season BAMA forced 28 turnovers which was 5th in the nation and 2 off the leader Tejas per Fox Sports

The defense got better as the season went on. Offense went the other way.

Do you have a list? I'd be interested in seeing it.

He was dealt a tough hand in installing a completely new system with a mostly green secondary, but they all improved as the year went on. Last game I went to was the Missouri game and I can't think of any coverage busts we had, which was the opposite early in the year. I think that with Saab returning and the emergence of Hubbard, that's gonna be a strength next year.

If we had consistent, average to above average QB play, we probably lose maybe one game this year. I think we beat Tennessee easily, we would have gotten some points out of three first half turnovers instead of the 0 Jalen provided.

The only call out for Womack is not blitzing enough early in the year and especially on 3rd downs.

He may not adjust in-game, but he sure did in-season.

Some folks here were wanting Pete Golding back early this year. He’ll force be the worst coordinator of under Saban in my opinion

I’ll admit, I wasn’t a fan at the beginning of the year. But the D was the only unit that got better as the year progressed. I’m a fan of him now.

The Vandy game was awful but got much better after except the first half against Oklahoma got run over by a shite offense.
