My guess is Bama is going to have to hit the portal in the spring window and bring in 10-15 players.
Bit less I think, but probably close.

I think Alabama will be fine and DeBoer was a good hire, but given the circumstances (Saban’s tenure + NIL + transfer portal + TX/OU to SEC) I do believe Alabama would have been much better off naming a coach-in-waiting or hiring in-house just to stabilize the next 2-3 years.

It’s definitely a unique situation given Saban and the current environment, which is still a “new” environment to totally turn an incredibly consistent powerful program totally upside down overnight

Let's give De Boer at least 2 weeks LOL.

To what flatten the curve? Saban fricked Alabama, why wasn't there a hand picked coach in waiting if retirement was in the cards? a smooth transition, so to speak? I believe he said frick it, I'm out.

Does this not apply to Washington?

It does now. But they don't have a lot of players who are going to be bid on. I'm hoping we can get a couple.

It won't affect Arizona or Fresno much at all, though.

Agreed.

You'd better believe Michigan's AD is watching everything that's going on and working to fix it.

Arizona, has some ballers. Much better QB than Milroe.

You're wrong about this. And I guarantee you that history has told, and will be retold that Bama is, was, and always will be the greatest college football team of all.

Here is the delusion on full display. Don’t feel sorry for them just enjoy what they have coming to them

Signing with and playing for Alabama when Saban was the HC provided NFL potential players an estimated 7-8 spot higher draft pick than they would have had elsewhere, according to some data. Anyone with eyes could see that if you played at a high level under Saban at Alabama you were going to make it to the NFL and when you did most likely several rounds higher than you would have otherwise. That is not the case today....it may prove to be but as of 1/18/2024 there is NO data to suggest that a new coach would retain that level of success for individual players. That data DOES exist for UGA under Smart and maybe 2-3 other coaches. Not at the same level...Saban made it happen for more often...but it does exist at other places and arguably Kirby Smart may be the best in CFB at it right now. If a major factor in playing for Alabama was being coached by Saban it'd be foolish to assume the next guy will have that kind of ability...to develop and highlight strengths in games with lots of eyes on them and up your draft stock. It may well happen, he may be better than Saban, but the data is inconclusive at Alabama for the moment while it is pretty well established in Athens and a handful of other places...

Bama cheated more. Even delusional gumps will come to recognize this eventuality. This isn’t surprising. That doesn’t make it any less fun, though.

most LSU fans feel this because after O ran us into the ground after 2019 and got let go...we were down to between 36-39 players on scholarship and some of those were former walk ons who were given scholarships.

i mean it was so bad that we had to have a WR play qb in our bowl game

luckily we hired BK who was able to salvage the last two years but he had to do so with a defensive coaching staff he had to piece together. Luckily he got denbrock, sloan and hankton for offense and they were able to put together a great plana nd help the day to day stuff along with frank.

we are just now recovering fully and still have problems at certain positions and just now able to build the coaching staff as BK wanted

Bama will experience many of the same things. look at the exodus from A&M etc. KD will have to build staff from previous stops and then he will have to somehow stabilize the program and then in like 2 years build the staff as he sees fit to actually win at a high level in this conference. if he cant.....they will be looking for a new coach in years.

Saban had no plan

of course he did. This was his plan.

Retire, gut the program, make sure no one else got the keys to the Ferrari he had built. It was the only way to ensure people would keep calling him the goat.

Had the new coach come in, kept winning, kept bringing natties home, in a few years folks would have been saying "maybe it's Alabama, and not Saban".

Yes, he had a plan.

LSU fans feel your pain in every way. We have been through this and saw first hand how hard it is replacing Saban

Yeah. It was awful winning 10 straight games and the SECw right after Nick left even thought we had 2 major hurricanes at the start of the season.

Then 2 years later we had a national championship. I don’t know how we made it through that dark time.

Would you have rathered it happen when half your recruiting class could have bailed like LSU had to deal with?

I, for one, think it's the best timing. Let those that want to walk, walk. See what nucleus you have left and build on that. It's been 17 years. Bama will be okay.

Got news for Downs, at a new school, he will be starting over as well with a whole new coaching staff

Ummm…about that. You do understand Caleb will have the EXACT same position coach(Travaris Robinson UGA Co-DC/Safeties Coach) and guy that recruited him out of HS, right? Also same basic defensive system.

Never said the situation was the same just stated that we know how hard it is replacing Saban. Doesn’t matter what the roster looks like ,what matters is that Saban is gone and all he brings to the program. Sure you can give him an office like we did Skip but he won’t be making Final decisions at the end of the day.

Despite Miles being stubborn as a mule regarding adapting his offense to the keep up with changes in the game, Miles continued to recruit at a high level and put players into the NFL. Even today, LSU is in the top 3 in terms of players on NFL rosters only behind Bama and Ohio State who both always outranked LSU in terms recruiting rankings.

O inherited a loaded roster from Miles, minus QB, and train kept rolling till it finally fell off the tracks in 2020 and 2021.

I have a feeling that after a short transition period, maybe 2 seasons, Bama will be fine.

A death penalty type event would be Bama going 0-12 next season. That has virtually no chance of happening.

At the very worst we're probably seeing a 7-5 season.
