Barely care. Half the class will leave after a year, portal is open. Doesn't matter much anymore.

I don’t follow recruiting at all anymore. What’s the point when players just enter the portal left and right?

I'd like to see the P5 agree to not accept transfers from other P5s. You want to transfer? Enjoy your career at Western Kentucky.

This is solved with contracts. Pay the kids directly, lock them into at least a two year contract.

How can you?
Now it’s only 50% of your roster building efforts

Don’t care nearly as much since Joe McKnight shoved it up our asses years ago.

I mean there's really not much of a reason to follow it that closely the letter of intent they sign isn't worth the piece of paper that it was written on.

I feel UGA and Bama recruit at a similar clip but UGA has a better staff/better player development than Bama.
Is that why Georgia is 1-5 in their last six games against Alabama? Their superior coaching? Or is it their superior development?

A lot of those wins took place before UGA got rolling. We beat UGA this season but I don’t think we are a better program at this time. Our staff is average.

Even better, put bigger numbers in front of them relative to HS senior money and get them locked in for 3 or 4. It balances the equation a great bit. Instead of now where players get coaching and physical development for a year or two - that costs a lot of money - then bouncing as soon as they can get a pay day.

What talent has Saban lost to the portal?

The “blue bloods” still recruit high school like it’s 2005. Half the guys you sign from high school wont finish at your program. Kinda meaningless to get excited about highly rated high school classes.

services, so yeah, it is weird. I still think having the first pass at talent is preferable to having to recruit them on limited eligibility timers.
Right. Saban would rather have an Anderson or turner for 3 years over 1yr

I’ll pay attention to offensive linemen more than anything. It seems like they are more subject to stay with a program and develop than other positions.

I couldn’t care less about recruiting or the players in the portal. I just root for whoever runs out of the tunnel with a Gator jersey on.
They are mercenaries just like the coaches now.

I used to follow it but now I loosely follow it because of the portal recruiting. What about you?
So far I've seen mixed results with coach Primes squad in Colorado and then of course Mich State, but neither resulted in a conference championship much less playoff berth. I think Freshwater and the Rebs will be something to monitor closely next season, but even if it does work there's no guarantee he can keep bringing in fresh soldiers of fortune every year and have the same results.
I think there is still a lot of value in bringing in high school recruits, immersing them in your team culture and coaching..and only using the portal to fill any talent holes that may crop up from either players leaving for the NFL, transferring for whatever reason or simply not panning out.

Yes, it’s still important but class ranks really don’t mean anything more. Basically, it’s usually not the top recruits from a class who transfer out (unless you’re Aggie) but usually the bottom half who don’t pan out or just don’t get two deep spots.

I haven't followed recruiting since 2008. It's basically just copium for mediocre teams

Bama should have won every NC for the past 12 years. They sell subs like crazy to gumps.
