How did the SEC get 8 bids?

I know most do not care because basketball is a secondary sport but the 8 bids surprised me. I was thinking 5 at most.
The B1G also got 8 so it will be interesting how the 2 leagues perform and compare them when it is over.

6 SEC teams are seed to fall out before the sweet 16. Comparison should take that in account. Texas A&M should be a 4 seed for example.

Big 12 has 7, and they are considered the strongest conference.

The league is good, but only Alabama is elite right now.
Arkansas has elite talent, but has struggled with injury.
Actually, I think this year's SEC slate is like many Big 10 slates--many teams worthy of inclusion, very few title factors.

Alabama doesn't have an opponent yet, obviously.
Of the seven remaining, six are betting favorites (Mizzou being the sole exception).

I think this is relevant because you'd have to come up with three other teams that both deserved to be in and would be favored at this point.
Who did you have in mind?

I know right? Should have been 9. Vandy got fricked this year. They was hot at the end of the season and finished tied for 4th in the SEC final stands and won 20 games.

Other than Mississippi State who it could be argued is a reach for getting in, what other two teams do you think shouldn't have gotten in. Auburn and Arkansas maybe? Those two teams had resumes consistent with a 9 or 10 seed.

Maybe they think the SEC will get a team past the 2nd round?

I don’t follow basketball.
But didn’t the big get a shitload of bids last year and do nothing with them?
Maybe the committee is coming to their senses and decided not to award a conference that’s incapable of producing results.

Big ten last year lost all but 3 teams before round of 32 and 2 by sweet sixteen most overrated league every year with zero high ranked wins …. Just an average league
