Teams with legit shot to win CFP every year

Team talent composite discussion raised a good question: who are the teams with a legit shot to win CFP (not just get there). Teams have to have the right combination of resources, coaches and recruits.
UGA
Bama
LSU
Ohio State
Michigan
Clemson
Texas?
Oklahoma?
USC?
Any others? That is a pretty thin list.

I think Florida and Florida State have won recently enough to stay on your list, I guess. There's a lot of talent in Florida.

why is southern cal and texas on this list? Neither has made a playoff, and only socal this year got close.
LSU had 2019 but other than that hasnt been close.
UGA, Bama, Ohio State, Clemson (yuck), Oklahoma, Michigan, have been the mainstays. outside of that some teams are one off

Until proven otherwise, Texas does not belong on the list.

USC is already Oklahoma West under Riley. They've signed like 5 or 6 5-star kids and every single one of them is a WR/QB/RB.
Their defensive recruiting and overall depth of recruiting has been dogshit, and they will continue to be horrid at it moving forward. Until he figures that out they won't be anything more than they were this season.

Uh, you're forgetting Aggie. Member that one time when they were 4th in the final season standings????!

That list has always been thin. I think you actually have to thin it out more for teams with a legitimate shot every single year no matter who they lose.
If it’s who can win it in a given year based on resources, players, etc, I’d add auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Washington, Florida st, mich st, notre dame, penn state.
If it’s who can win it EVERY year I’d say Bama, UGA, usc, Oklahoma,

Between NIL leveraging the recruit buying playing field and Saban retiring soon, in about 5-10 years they will no longer be on this exclusive list

There's a clear and discernable pattern concerning programs that have won national championships since the turn of the century. Each national champion (with the exception of 2000 Oklahoma) has at least one Top 10 recruiting class on its roster. That means the following teams are the only ones to have a shot in 2023:
Alabama
Georgia
Texas
Miami
LSU
Oklahoma
Ohio State
Notre Dame
USC
Tennessee
Texas A&M
Penn State
Michigan
Clemson
Oregon
Auburn

Moving to the SEC will take these two programs almost completely out of the discussion.

If you're talking about history, A&M of course has no business on that list. But things change. Yale used to be on that list.
If you're talking about current resources, coaches, and recruits, then of course A&M belongs on the list.

I don't see how we're still on that list...
ETA: Dabo without a Venables caliber DC and unchanged offensive staff and refusal to adapt to CFB changes don't have me booking any trips to the natty...

In the playoff era the worst team in talent composite to win a national championship was 9th. No Big 12 or Pac 12 schools have won.
So I'm going to say you have to be top 10 in talent and play in the SEC / B1G / ACC to win.

Who has won more national championships than Alabama the past 20 years or so?
LSU
LSU

Right now...
Georgia
Alabama
Ohio State
That's the list, and Ohio State is a stretch.

Legit shot every single year?
UGA and Bama
Tempted to out Ohio State but honestly most years no.
Potential any given year to have a good enough team
Ohio State, LSU, Clemson,

I think you can pare the list down to
UGA
Bama
LSU
Ohio State
Clemson
Texas would be borderline. They’re starting to get better but have a ways to go.
Michigan needs to at least win a playoff game before I’m sold on them.

Michigan is like Tennessee, is this a fluke, or will they really challenge
USCrubbers is not even back yet
Oklahoma is in better shape than Utx but they are SEC meat grinder bound
Utx is always over hyped, they will do well just to see who wins vs TAMU
I think if you view it by who will feed from their conference
ACC - Clemson, Florida State, and Notre Dame (if the other 2 are out)
B1G - Ohio State and maybe Michigan
B12 - TCU but they will be in a G5 after OU and UTx depart
SEC - Alabama, LSU, Georgia, and Auburn with UT, UF, and maybe OU as maybe
PAC - Somebody will get in but probably won't win it all
G5's - Same as the PAC, somebody will get in, but not win it all

UGA, Bama, Ohio State are probably the only ones to include. LSU catches lightning in a bottle every 4 years or so, but they aren’t a threat yearly.
