College football fans carry grudges forever

I find it funny how college football fans never forget and can hate a team forever due to a single game or event. I'm just as guilty since I have disliked some teams most of my life because of something that happened decades ago. For example, I grew up an Alabama fan and in 1977 the National Championship was awarded to Notre Dame instead of Alabama. This was done in spite of the fact that Notre Dame lost to Ole Miss that year and Alabama beat Ole Miss. As a 10-year-old that made me so upset that I have pulled against Notre Dame ever since. It is ironic that I graduated from Georgia Tech and there are so many Alabama fans that hate GT because of a feud between Bear and Dodd in the 1960's.
What are some examples of events from decades ago that are the reason you hate a particular team?

As a Princeton Tigers fan, I am upset that Texas A & M won the 1939 national title instead of us.

Feud? No… helluv a lot more than a grudge
- Chick Granning-Darwin Holt incident; (Holt was the meanest toughest sob I ever met in person and that’s saying a lot, two LBs played then…the other was Leroy Jordan)…
- Ferman Bisher and Atlanta Constitution;
- Look Magazine and the fake Wally Butts-Bear Bryant fix;
- whiskey bottles in Grant Stadium causing Bryant to wear helmet on sideline;
- Joe Namath assaulted in field;
- Bobby Dodd and his constant interviews with Bisher just insulting Alabama and Bryant;
And other programs Dodd and Ga Tech dissed…
- Georgia Tech publicizing that they would NEVER go play State or Ole Miss because “the State of Mississippi was beneath them”…
This caused both programs black ball Tech when they put out feelers to return to the conference in early 1970s.
- Tech ultimatum the entire conference about the 140 issue… the vote rejecting their demand was 11-0 against them.
It is a LOT more than holding grudges. Ask USCe people how they feel about UNC causing them to leave the ACC. There are some things that last longer than a few decades.

I hold grudges against individual players more so than a team because of a single game or event. It took me a long, long time to get over Shaun Alexander, when in reality he seems like a pretty awesome human being

Its what makes the sport great. Sterilize the hate and you will have modern day nascar where even the fans hate the sport.

I have an annual grudge against every team that brags that they are bowl eligible and actually play in a bowl with a
6-6 record. My favorite team growing up was Michigan which in 1972 or 1973 had a tie game against the Buckeyes. Both teams finished 10-0-1 and due to the B1G rules at that time only one Big Ten team-the champion-got to go to the Rose Bowl which was the only bowl available. Ohio State was voted to go by a vote of the ADs of the league. Yeah, I have a huge grudge against Michigan State as they voted for Ohio State. BTW, this grudge is because I am pissed off from more than 50 years ago.
Bowl Eligible my arse!

Sounds like they were not close to being the only school that voted for Ohio State.

One of our old coaches stopped coaching for us and later started coaching for someone in our own division and beat us a bunch of times. So I hate that team. And that guy.

2003 AP bullshite with USC. I hope to Christ they come to Baton Rouge in 2023 and the southern CA people can see just how strong that hate has persisted.

I have a weird dislike for Florida State because of Terrell Buckley. Odd I know
Also for the record I’d be ok if Baylor lost every sporting contest womens or mens for the rest of eternity. F them

That's funny do you have any problem claiming the 64 mnc awarded by the AP? After all, you had one loss to Texas and Arkansas went undefeated, was awarded the Grantland Rice trophy (sports writers) and beat the same Texas team.

Basically you’re wanting to feel better about the fact that y’all bolted the sec.
You now want to blame it on Alabama and Georgia.
Just come out and say it, Sally. We see this shite a mile away.
We are the secRant for fricksake.

Interesting question. I’m not a Texas fan but I would like to know if Texas fans still remember and hold a grudge against The U for the way the infamous 91 Cotton Bowl went down. I watched that game and it was ugly for Texas. Miami just flat humiliated Texas both on the scoreboard and with the way Miami acted during that game. I don’t know if I have ever seen anything like that game since then. Miami totally destroyed Texas that day then rubbed it in to boot. That game should still have Texas fans burning mad.
If you have never seen that game pull it up on the net and watch it. Miami put on a show that day. It’s worth a watch for sure.

I will never forget Nick Fairly spearing Aaron Murray in the back as long as I live and it makes me enjoy annual beat downs of Auburn that much more. Frick Auburn and their classless players, coaches and fans.

Alabama finishing third in 1966, despite having won the NC in '64 and '65 and finishing the '66 season as the only undefeated and untied team in the county, continues to piss me the motherfricking hell off.
I was not actually born until twelve years after this occurred.

Can't say I have ever hated a team. There's definitely been a few shady players over the years but I'm not going to blame an entire team for their behavior.
It's like posters on here, there's quite a few that will attack posters outright due to their school affiliation, but I don't assume their entire school is filled with retards. :)
