If you guys want to pass around the hat, I'll declare myself AD and go get us a coach. Hell, I'll whore myself out to UF fans as well and get them one also.

I'm coming around on getting a top notch P4 coordinator like Glen Schumann or Brian Hartline. G5 coaches haven't worked out so well for us.

FOR US?? There are literally less than a handful of G5 hires that won at their P5 gig. IN THE LAST 40 YEARS. Im praying Cohen doesn't do this crap because if it does work out we will be VERY lucky and one of the few that it works out for.

Schumann is our man!!!!

Any coach who would agree to being forced to keep 3 coaches (if it is true) is a coach that I believe will fail.

That's if any of this is true. It very well could be true because it's Auburn we're talking about here, but it also could very well be a bunch of BS started by OM/Bammers.

I think the next Auburn AD has to be required to take some HR classes. I have never met a hiring manager that doesn't do multiple interviews and have a list of choices 1-5 or something in case you offer your first choice and get turned down you can immediately reach out to #2, etc. To be all in on Sumrall and the only safety net be Durkin is idiotic.

Also, how old is Jimmy Rane? Not wishing anyone ill health but he can't keep his fingers in the pie for another 10 years, can he?

Yeah, I think it's prudent to cross Sumrall off the list. It also appears Durkin was our only backup plan. If that's the case, Cohen's timeline to have a coach in place tomorrow has to be trashed now (unless Durkin is the hire).

I think AU is just that stupid. We can’t get anything right. I fully expect us to screw this up and hire Durk and get further behind.

Seriously. And certainly not when two of them are mediocre coaches and hardly household names can't miss guys.

John Brice from Football Scoop is reporting that Sumrall has withdrawn from Auburn's search. Its over:

So basically the only hope right now is that Bama beats us so badly that it resets our coaching search and forces them to NOT hire Durkin due to backlash.

Durkin

I think it needs to be made clear that Durkin is no longer a candidate and any promises to him in regards to retention need to be rescinded. At this point no candidate is going to seriously consider Auburn unless you fish the Durkin turd out of the pool and clear the deck

If it’s not Summral then Durkin will be announced Sunday after an IB win. If we lose expect the announcement to come later in the week or even weeks to let the stink wear off

So stupid. Imagine not wanting a department around you that wants you to succeed year 1. frick us for trying to set him up with the best coordinators in the game and an intact roster. After you've established a winning program with these guys THEN you can do your own interviews as the prospects of being on your staff will attract the best of the best. And I stand with Cohen on that. Granted it's all still speculation but the smoke is getting thick. Im not gonna fault him for trying to mitigate the risk of hiring a G5 guy.

But ego precedes logic with these dudes and you have to operate under that knowledge.

The optics are horrible nonetheless tho.

Not a chance in hell this happens. The program is feeling the heat from the way this was handled. In the middle of the shite storm is Durkin. You can't frick up a coaching search this spectacularly bad and then turn around and hand then program to the guy at the center of the firestorm

You don’t tell an incoming HC who he is and isn’t going to keep on staff. That’s red flags everywhere to anyone coming in. That isn’t an ego thing.

If Sumrall is actually out Cohen needs to get some balls and go do whatever it takes to get Dilly.

From your mouth to Pat Dye’s ears. But let’s be honest with ourselves. Cohen and the PTB are happy as pigs in shite just hiring Durkin. No Sumrall? No problem. The guy who just happened to already be our DC and is now our interim HC is just as good as anyone.

We should formally change our battle cry from “War Eagle” to “That’ll Do!”

By the way, you guys obviously don’t know me, but I’m actually a freaking optimistic person. The fact I’m this down on our football program right now speaks volumes. (Not to make this about me. Haha.)
