Yea, but we’re one of the biggest.

So many things can be true at once.

There is no coach I’d rather have than Bruce Pearl.

No season that ends in a Final Four appearance can truly be considered a failure.

For most schools (certainly Auburn among them), any season when you win your conference championship is a success.

A team that spends 8 weeks at #1 has to have a “National Championship or bust” mindset.

The team that is the #1 overall seed going into the tournament has to consider anything less than winning it all unsatisfying.

Contradictions. Yet all true.

I love Bruce and I’m proud of the guys on this team. And I certainly acknowledge where AU basketball has come from. But I just can’t look back at this outcome and think, “hot dog!” I’m left both happy and unsatisfied. So many things can be true at once.

You can’t spend like 8 weeks ranked #1, with most of those weeks unanimous, have double digit wins against Q1 opponents, and be the top seed overall in the NCAA Tournament and consider anything less than the National Championship to be satisfying.

At the same time, you can’t really win your regular season conference championship and make the Final Four and consider the season a failure (especially when you have Auburn’s 100+ year pre-Bruce basketball history).

I’m proud of these guys, but at the same time have to acknowledge they fail short of what they were capable of accomplishing.
As Ole Blue Eyes said, “that’s life.”
"A football team with a shitty little party school attached to it."

We really do have to fear how smart AI is getting.

I would also be surprised, although happily so. I don’t think he’ll leave Florida for any other school. Auburn will pay as much as any of those schools you named and currently have a better basketball program. Unfortunately, the same can be said of Florida.

Of course, we have the fact that he’s been here before. But I think he’s a Gator for life at this point.

I’d want Golden, but that seems unlikely. I, too, am warming up to Steven.

I think Duke would prefer the East.
There won’t be “conferences” (per se), there will be divisions. It will be modeled on the NFL, only slightly larger. I’m going to say about 80 schools; roughly 10 divisions with 8 teams each. Or 8 with 10 teams each. Approximately. It will get political as midnight approaches and a few heavy hitters realize their school is about to get left out and the numbers will shift a little.

It’s not about TV markets anymore. Streaming changed that. (I’m not saying TV isn’t where the money is coming from. It certainly is. But now it’s less about capturing geographically populated areas than it was 20 years ago.)

So I’m going to say in 10 years that’s what we have. A mini-NFL.

That’s what I think, anyway.
I agree that the top football schools are going to break from the NCAA, and probably sooner than later. But it will result in fewer teams per conference, or what will then be known as divisions. Probably roughly 8 teams per division, but at least 5 and no more than 10.
We good at 16. I would only take UNC if TAMU leaves or we boot Mizzu.

…was anyone able to grab it? My phone seemed to catch it, but couldn’t download it.

We play 8 of the top 11 and are 1 of the other 3.

It will be 16 sooner than later. Everyone is going to want to host a playoff game for the $ and the bye proved to be overrated. Missing out on the home game cash and then losing anyway was a double whammy.

David Marsh might take issue, but when it’s between you and a guy who won about 10,000 National Championships, you good!
