When did I say that? We have just lost out on most of the top transfers as well, has nothing to do with expecting 1.000.

When you are going for guys like Chaney Johnson in the portal and counting on him for major minutes you aren't hitting on your top options (and I have no idea if he'll be great or not, he was just an out of left field play because we missed on other guys).

We definitely got a couple decent transfers, but we had huge holes in the lineup, and we will have even more after this season. When we had a one player recruiting class for 23 the rhetoric was just wait for 24, that class, it'll be awesome. Now it's looking like another one player class. Holloway and Pettiford should be awesome, but they both could realistically be one and dones.

I love Bruce and don't want him going anywhere, and I think we have a shot to have a pretty solid team this year. But we are going to have to do much better in the portal if these classes are our new normal if we are expecting deep tourney runs and sustained success.

Several things just haven’t gone our way. Several players leaving early when they weren’t really expected to when they were recruited. The introduction of the G League money and now NIL. Definitely fighting an uphill battle but I think the coaches will figure it out.

I'm not a fan of trying to play catch-up in the portal year to year. It seems to be a formula to wind up with a lot of diminishing returns, talent wise. We'll see. I'd like to see Auburn basketball take a next step, but I know that's not where the bulk of the NIL dollars are going to go.

Agree with most of your post. But Chaney was not an out of left field offer. We offered him very early in portal season. You might be thinking of the JUCO guy

Agree Corch. That’s why it’s kinda silly to me we have to evaluate where we are in the Bruce era everytime something not great happens. I mean we did it after every loss this past season. I get being disappointed but some people are just miserable. And every single program is trying to figure the portal thing out. I do feel really good about this upcoming roster

Na I disagree. We arguably lost Scoot Henderson, Jalen Green, and Kuminga to the GLeague when it was just a bit of a startup thing. I don’t think Bruce expected Sharife Cooper, JT Thor, Isaac Okoro and Walker Kessler to be one and dones. On top of that, Traore and Westry were busts. Of course all coaches have their problems but Bruce has had a bit of an uphill battle and navigated it fairly well. I hope he’s working out of this rut with the roster.

It does seem the G league effects have been more harsh to Auburn.

However the one and done stuff is not unique. The one and done stuff sucks and ill never like it. Only difference is now we can view one and done as an enemy to stability. If I griped about it when it happened people would be like "bammer why do you hate Shariffe".

It’s even more of an enemy to stability when the player isn’t expected to be a one and done. I mean we knew Jabari would be gone in a year, but not really the others I listed. Maybe you could argue Sharife.

I am selfish. I want these players to stay.

I was pissed Harper left college a year early. Dude probably could've been a top 3 player in Auburn history.

I know Bruce somehow landed at last year's roster somehow, someway. He fricked up somewhere and he probably knows where he fricked up. I just hope last night wasnt the next frick up.

Adjusting and adapting and winning is how Bruce has done so well in his career. He will. Hopefully.

I think in retrospect if he knew Trey Alexander would decommit after we landed Desi, he never would have offered Desi. Not sure he saw that one coming at all.

That actually makes a lot of sense. Alexander was such a weird casualty just because he was feeling insecure. I know who benefited: Creighton

They probably had a bug in his ear.

Maybe out of left field isn't the best description, but he was definitely a backup option compared to the others we were linked to at the beginning of the portal process. He's not some guy you can say "Oh, we sure beat out all these top teams for that guy from AL-Huntsville".

And yeah, Scott was definitely out of left field, but that one is understandable honestly. It was pretty impossible for Bruce to get a decent backup center with Broome and Cardwell already here.

We basically had starting positions open at the 2 and 3, and only were able to grab one guy (Jones) that I'd say was a top end portal option. Chad Baker-Mazara and Johnson could both be great, and I hope they are, but it's definitely not a situation where we can say it's okay we just had two players signed in two years because we will make up for it in the portal.

I think Bruce has a tendency to over-correct. He seemed to put a huge emphasis on defensive/tough guys after the 2020 trash team. He’s now started bringing on more guys who aren’t great defenders but can score much better. He got burned by some highly ranked, but not elite freshmen so now he’s got in his head to only take the can’t miss guys.

He’s implementing a true blue blood recruiting strategy. The question is are we able to actually pull it off.

I actually believe this. The roster makeups at times made you wonder if he was using the same thought process to get to what he wanted.

Here is another sweet video coming from a Harper interview. Pearl is such a player's coach. Flory is an idiot for turning him down.

Speaking of which, that is my concern with the roster this year. We added lots of shooting and offense overall, and I really like us on paper offensively, but find myself wondering if this group will have the chops defensively.

Cardwell will definitely have to play a big role if we get in scoring matches. He will need to be able to shut down the drives to the rim and stay on the court longer then 10 minutes a game without raking up fouls.

Asa Newell (#1 PF, #9 overall) has locked in an OV to Auburn

I've seen some chatter that he is Bama bound but not sure if that is simply because it is the only place he has OV'ed
