Auburn rumor time is upon us. I will observe with amusement as they pour in and at those fans who take the bait.

? We recieved 45 MM from the SEC last year. I guess we pay him out of that the next few years. I feel there is enough smoke right now that he may be angling for the arky job. Would be a shitty move to abandon his guys before the IB.

I say bring Steele on. A lot of people on this site were shitting a brick when he was hired as DC. I liked the hire then. I believe he could put together a fine staff. Steele has done a great job and he is a damn fine coach.

I say give him a chance.

Maybe he just doesn't enjoy working with Gus? I've worked for a shitty boss before, at some point it just becomes too much to deal with.

He would have to be pretty damn miserable. He’s in a good spot already.

I've said before but it's going to be really hard to fire Gus if we do beat Alabama and go 9-3 playing arguably the hardest schedule in CFB and a pretty solid recruiting class in tow.

I also don't think we should fight it one bit should that happen and Arkansas come calling.

Arky hiring Gus is the best solution. I just can't see him getting fired this year.

I agree, but Gus makes me pretty damn miserable and don't even work for him

We’re entering peak RumorU season. The downside of having a tight lipped program and a small circle of knowledgeable people around it is that it creates space for these actors to come in.

Steele’s brother works in the AD. I believe most of his family now lives nearby. Steele gets complete autonomy on defense and Gus shelters him from the media. Every indication that those two are peas and carrots.

Steele is just young enough to build a new defense somewhere else and still ride into the sunset but it seems unlikely he’d push for that.

You may want to check your facts? We have less resource than Bama, UGA, TAMU or LSU.

Realizing now I misread the OP. Mike Marshall was insinuating that Gus leaves and Steele is promoted.

We just did this with Gus basically. I love Steele, but I want a whole new program if Gus is fired.

My hunch is Saban has probably offered him an extra million or so to head up the road. Would shore up his defense and most likely leave ours in shambles as Gus would probably name Kodi Burns as defensive coordinator.

I'm torn on it, frankly. I'd hate to trash the structure that produced this defense. Steele also could be just the CEO type guy to bring in the right staff to do the job on offense and maybe he learned from his experiences in the past and won't make the same mistakes.

On the other hand, yeah, part of me would want to just flush it and reset... but that would (for me) be contingent on an insanely good hire.

Yeah, for sure. That is contingent on getting someone other than a project HC.

I’ve read on here that he’s been fired from bama twice already. Bama will be looking for a DC though (giggling like a little school girl)

I think he will want to have Muschamp back though.

Yeah this sounds pretty absurd right now.

The entire premise is stupid

There's probably a 90%+ chance that Steele is gone if Gus is gone.

Yet the rumors are all "OMG if we don't fire Gus Steele will leave!"

In actuality, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Steele probably is very frustrated right now. For the past couple season's, he has largely held up his part of the deal, while the offense has sputtered and cost us wins. I'm sure Steele has made that known.

I'm also pretty sure that it does not mean he will leave if Gus is not replaced.

I think Steele is probably pretty happy. He's earning the state pension, getting paid well, has great resources at his disposal at Auburn, is doing a great job in the national spotlight, is up for awards, etc.
